Hi
I'm trying to figure out a way to get more and better speakers into my 85
380 SE; I've replaced the 4X6s in the dash and rear deck with Kenwood's
best..... what now? Short of cutting out the rear deck, do later 126 door
panels have speaker cutouts? Any ideas?

TIA

Thor

I have the same Kenwoods in the back of my 126, but I have a pair of
Bazoka amplified subwoofers. I'm not wanting for beter speakers. Maybe
I'm not fussy, or maybe the subs fill i the gaps the otherawise good 4x6's
can't handle.

Later W126s (after 1989) DO have speaker cutouts in the front door panels.
This applies for both SEL and SEC models.

Thanks.
are there any fitment issues I should be aware of in shopping for later
door panels??

Also, Richard, I take it your subs are in the trunk??

TIA

Ironically they used to be Satish's subs :-) We raced for them, him in
his 560SEC AMG and me in my diesel. He was doing ok and way out
in front until he got his fourth ticket of the day and I zipped
past him. Klatta klatta klatta klatta. I got the subs, and now Satish
has to buy insurance from another solar system.

They don't fit in the truck they ARE the trunk. Well, ok, they're not
quite that big, but they do take up some space.

He he he, Richard, this story can very well happen to me one day. I don't
doubt it one bit. On another note, no there are no impeding fitment issues
regarding fitting the later style door panels with the speaker cutouts in
the earlier W126 door EXCEPT one cosmetic thing, from 1989, ALL S-class cars
got a new upgraded leather interior including folded leather door panel
trim. 1988 models were the ONLY year that had the older style door panels
AND the speaker cutouts so you can either change all 4 door panels to match
or find/buy 2 1988 door panels with a 10-speaker hi-fi sound system speaker
cutouts.
