Asking concerning my 82 SL - (euro) 107 chassis:

I need rear shocks.

A reasonably inexpensive cost for the original Bilstein parts.

However, before doing: any suggestions on a "better" aftermarket part, or
additional procedure to do at the same time? (Like sway bar type
modification).

Also, I see in the Precision catalog, that there is something called a Dampner
shock as part of the steering. (I don't think this is an after market
modification).
Any suggestions/comments on this and how one tests if it is worn, or adjusts
too? I would not want to change and end up with the steering touch of a
Lincoln!

I understand the adjustable steering box process. Is there a required amount
of play to leave in the system? I generally prefer to feel the road, having
steering tight and sporty. (Not wild about my current feel). I would not
want to change and end up with the steering touch of a Lincoln!

Thanks
