We recently purchased two 1984 300 SDs and love them. They're even
the same color (gray). One has 183,000 miles, the other has 195,000
miles. We live in the north Atlanta Suburbs (Kennesaw) and were
wondering if anyone has any experience with any particular mechanics
or repair shops to take these beauties to for service, etc?

I have been looking in your area and have yet to find that '83
to '85 300D of TD. However I did come across the German Autohaus
in Smyrna GA 1-770-435-0804 They look like a good place to have
your car worked on.

Max at Performance Imports in Doraville off Peachtree Industrial is
very good, friendly, and fairly slow. If you get your parts through
Rusty directly (za...@bellsouth.net), you can probably get wholesale
parts prices. Diagnose things yourself first if you can, there are a
lot of sharks out there.

Good Luck,

Last December, they transplanted the engine/tranny from my rusted out '80
300sd into an identical (but much better condition) chassis. What they did
seems fine, it's what they didn't do that made me unhappy:
Headlights, marker lights, and dash lights all not working (a fuse)
parking brakes dragging even when released
turbo not working (wire from sensor shorted to ground!)
Engine shock absorbers not tightened
vacuum system not reconnected properly, nothing worked
injector spraying fuel (hose missing)
AC system empty (was assured it would be filled!)
There are others too numerous to mention here. I've managed to find and fix
most of the problems, and the car is beginning to be a pleasure to drive
again, but I would certainly not recommend their services to anyone (except
perhaps to my x-wife's attorney!)

I bought my 1987 560SEL from Ricky, the service manager at Manuel's
Mercedes on Cobb Parkway.

I've taken it back for some minor repairs and Ricky and everyone else
there have gone out of his way to take care of me. I'm very happy with
their service and wouldn't hesitate to recomend them to anyone.
