I don't understand why a "meticulously maintained" 1988 MB 560SL would have
been repainted, and the dash replaced? I don't think the wheels look original
either. Jim

for me, "Meticuously Maintained", would begin with flawless dingfree original MB
factory paint, and a dash that hadn't suffered premature UV damage. Perhaps you
meant to say " Beautifully Restored" ?

I have to second that, I clicked on the link, and I almost pucked when I saw
the wheels, on top of all that the price is just too high, I don't care how
restored the car is, thats $10 K more then most 1988 and 1989 run.

12 year old paint, especially red, is likely to have faded, etc... The dash
may have cracked, which may have little or nothing to do with how the car
was maintained. Blue dashes were particularly prone to cracking with time.

Very true. I am the original owner of an '84 SVO Mustang that now has
somewhere
over 300,000 miles under its belt, only has been out of Texas three
times. Its paint
has withstood time fairly well but now is shot and is on its second
dash. Meanwhile
when I rebuilt the engine 30,000 miles ago the original hone marks were
visible in the
cylinder walls, the bearings were pristine and the bottom end went back
together at
standard while we bored her .001.

If you are talking about the silver 560SL shown when I clicked the link
those wheels are original equipment on SL's from 1986 to 1992. I happen
to disagree with you about their look. I think they are some of the
finest looking rims ever produced by Mercedes. What I think is tacky is
adding a big gold star to the center of the rim which is what many
owners in my neck of the woods do. As for the price, it would depend on
miles. 1988 - 1989 560 SL's with under 50K miles typically start at $25K
and sometimes go over $35K depending on originality.
