I'm on the verge of buying my first Mercedes and I was wondering if
anyone in the group could give me some advice as to the best dealer in
the Los Angeles area, closer to the west side is better. Of coarse I can
use the www.mbusa.com search engine to find the dealers but I'm hoping
that the group can tell me how good they are.
Thanks for your help.

I got my 2000 E320 from Keyes in Van Nuys. They were great. Salesman (Sam
Makarem) was not obnoxious at all. Very good follow through after the
sale -- gift baskets, gift from parts department, etc. Totally unexpected.
Service is also great--very personal (Neal Schierson) and they provide free
loaners, usually C-class cars. Entire experience buying the car was
painless and quick.

They're a far cry from Rusnak in Pasadena who told me to come back when I
was ready. They don't even have enough customer parking. A big directional
arrow says "parts department". When you go in, this "smart ass " lady says
"oh, that's over there next to the showroom. This is the boutique".
Boutique my ass, why is the big arrow that says "parts" pointing here?

Good luck and let us/me know where you end up getting your MB and what
experience you went through. Some dealers are better than others. I had a
wonderful experience at Keyes. They're on Van Nuys Blvd. north of the
Ventura freeway. I wasn't even dressed well--faded jeans, boots and
t-shirt.

I bought my 99 C230 from W.I. Simonson in Santa Monica. They treated
me with respect and a tremendous amount of courtesy. Most luxury car
dealers won't even talk to young-looking people (I was 24 when I
bought the car). The nearby Lexus dealer wouldn't even talk to me.
They wouldn't take my 97 Ford F-150 truck in trade, but they made
calls and found me a buyer within a few hours. Simonson is one of the
oldest MB dealers in the US.

There are a few minor downsides I have found with them:
1. They are a smaller dealer, especially compared to huge LA Dealers
like Beverly Hills, Ltd. and Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach, so they
may not have the best selection.
2. Due to the heavy concentration of MB's in the West LA/Santa Monica
area, their service department is very busy (make an appointment and
you will be fine).
3. They have a fleet of Ford Taurus loaner cars. They might give you a
MB loaner if you ask, but I have never tried.

I will say that the service people are very courteous and I have never
had a problem working with them. Also whoever does the
detailing/washing over there does a fantastic job.

I recently ordered a CLK430 coupe from Beverly Hills Ltd., and I found the
service to be curteous, and the salesman to be very knowledgeable. Most
dealers didn't treat me seriously, because (believe it or not, I'm serious) I
am 15 years old. I'm buying my first car, and Beverly Hills BMW barely even
spoke to me. Alex Kraenkel at BH Ltd never questioned my age or anything, it
was very nice. They are also a big dealership, with quite a reputation
(largely because of their loacation). Good luck with whatever dealer you
choose :o) -Ian

Can you blame them? You're not of legal age or old enough for to support a
contractual agreement.

just the opposite. If you're only 15, then BH Ltd. is so hungry for sales
that they would even sell a car to a minor, who could walk away with a null
and void contract. Did they even make sure that you had a non-minor
co-signing?

In all fairness to BH Ltd. I have heard from friends that they are friendly
and willing to make a good deal. However, that thing about giving you free
off-road training if you bought an M-class, they're not the first to offer
that. Jeep has been doing that for ages.

Of course they made sure I had a parent co-signing it. They're not stupid.
And to the poster a few messages back, I feel I CAN blame the BMW dealership.
It doesn't matter how old I am, as long as a parent co-signs and I have the
money (which I do), they should treat me with the same respect they give an
older customer.

And also, Jeep may have been doing the off-road training first, but so has
HUMMER. What they're saying is that they were the first MERCEDES dealership to
offer that service with the purchase of an M-Class. I really don't consider
Jeeps and Mercedes to be in the same league.

They'll treat you seriously when you
show them a cashier's check for at least
the cost the car you intend on buying.
(i.e. bring a $35000 cashier's check if you're
getting the E55) Also bring your parent
or legal guardian(if not, your personal attorney, then)

Or you can wire me the money and fly down here,
I'll make sure my salesperson treat you like
a prince! One of his clients is an actual Saudi
prince living in Washington, DC area. I saw him
in the showroom once. He looked to be about 17.
I really envy the way he picks his cars. My salesperson
told me the prince would come in and say"two of these,
red and black(SL600s) and one of those little
toys(SLK230)...
have them delivered tonight..." Sometimes he only calls
and order over the phone....

And to the wise ass who said I can't get a license until I'm 16- don't you
think I know that? Dumbfuck. Do you know what the wait list for a CLK430 is?
By the time it comes, I will have had my license for 2 months. I'm not an
idiot- you ask some pretty fucking lame questions. And it sounds like a lot of
you are insecure, but I'm not gonna get into that.

Two of my local dealers have the CLK430 in stock.
Brilliant silver and black, with ash/oyster interior.
I test drove the silver one and it is loaded with every
option, including a factory phone except COMAND
navigation system. The black one I believe was similarly
equipped... They are being sold at MSRP. My salesperson
told me the waiting list is almost non-existent now, unless
you're looking for a special color or the designo edition.
(or if you're looking for a CLK430 cabriolet, which is about
a year).

When I turned 16, all I got was a Nissan 300ZX, nothing
close
to the CLK430... (but it was fast in its days) The
salesperson
did treat me like dirt, because it was my first car and I
knew nothing
about cars. He quickly reversed his attitude after they
received
money...

My current MB salesperson is wonderful. She treats
everybody the
same, whether you're buying or just looking. Once she spent
an hour explaining everything about MBs to a die-hard Volvo
owner
who was simply killing time while his Volvo T5 wagon was
being
serviced.(the dealership also sells Volvos!) She told me
she knew
the guy would never buy a Mercedes, but he's still a
customer.
Now that's what I call service. (Cathy, if you're reading
this,
how about trying to get your manager to drop a couple
thousand
bucks from the E430 4Matic I ordered? <grin> ..... )

Ya' know, just setting back and reading this intellectual exchange, it seems
that your complaint was that you weren't getting any respect. It seems to
me that you are getting all the respect to which you are entitled. Your age
doesn't really entitle you to anything other than an AARP card if you should
live so long.

I got my 99 ML 430 from Long Beach Mercedes Benz. Like Simonson, they
are a small dealer, but they are courtious, and the service dept. is
excellent This was the 4th MB I,ve bought from them The chap I dealt
with was Mike McGlone. 562-426-7301. I know it's a stretch from west
side LA, but it might be worth your while.

I got mine from the House of Imports in Buena Park. Got a used S class
coupe for about $1800 over wholesale, it had been on their lot for 5
months, and no one had bought it, it did not hurt I had driven from San
Francisco to look for a car (over 500 miles) so they had only ONE
chance to sell it to me, and they were probalby sick of looking at the
car after 5 months.
Did not hurt either that they are the largest dealer in the USA so can
sell the cars cheaper.
We were treated very well, even though we drove up in a 1988 Ford LTD
Crown Victoria we had. They said appearance doesn't matter to the
sales force, Doctors arrive there wearing their scrubs, etc.
