Yes, they are kinda fun to fool around with. This may be of some help
to you. I'm trying to get a BECKER Model 612 going and here is the
wiring
connection info for that. Don't know how much cross over there is...
On the Model 612 the Power Plug has 4 male pins with the first pin,
(far right as your looking at the back of the radio) slightly offset
down. I suppose Becker did this so you couldn't got to Radio shack and
buy a power connector. Anyway the wiring is as follows:
**READ RIGHT to LEFT** Numbers are on connector plug under each wire
in Small Print.
Pin 1 - Brown Wire, on Connector Harness, connect to Ground
(This is the one that is off-set down a bit)
Pin 2 - Gray Wire, Connect 12V here for Radio Pannel Lights
Pin 3 - Black Wire, Connect to Accessories, THIS IS NOT A GROUND WIRE.
It is 12V Switched so when you turn your ACCY's on the Radio
will work.
Pin 4 - Red Wire, Connect to Constant 12V Power point.
NOTE: There may be a single plug next to the Power Connector, if so,
this is where the wire to the Power Antenna Connects.
Speakers: Mine has two Connector Points:
1- The White Plug Has two wires going to it.
--The Red/Black and the Black connect to your two speaker connection
points or the "Balance Control" between the seats, depending on how
you plan to wire it up.
2- The Black Plug has two wires as well.
-- The Black/Green and Black go the Balance Control *or* Speaker
contact terminals. DO NOT CONNCET THE BLACK WIRE TO GROUND.
Hopes this Helps, if you happen to run across a Schematic/Repair
Manual for a Model 612 please let me know, will pay for FAX, shipping
etc.
If your missing the Power Plug and Speaker Plugs. LA Jolla Audio
at 5161 Santa Fe Street Suite A & B San Diego, CA 92109 has all those
items. The Number is 619-581-6545. Ask for Donald Fong or the owner.
They were VERY helpful in assisting me with this project. I strongly
reccomend them.
There is an "Authorized" Becker dealer here in San Diego called "Radio
Man", I consider them major Rip Off types. They Do try to B/S Women a
lot, I got a lot of the "macho boy stuff" there and was generally
treated
like I didn't know a thing about radios. I went in to 'Radioman" to
purchase a used Becker to Stick in a 79 300SD and thay wanted $600
for a used one $1,600.oo for a rebuild ! <<Gotta be smoking crack or
something>> Sooooo... I just found someone who wanted my business
without
the B/S.
Well... I got one from MB Recyclers in Oakland for a Fraction of that.
In my 24 year professional life I have done Depot Level repair work on
Military Aircraft Radios, ARC-51,52,159,182,210 etc. Well some 18 year
old kid whos idea of repairing a Radio is "swaping Boards till it works"
is not going to tell me one dann thing about electronics. Anyway, I'm
getting on the soap box, call La Jolla Audio if you need help, they are
good people.
Oh yes, if your interested in and AM, FM, SHORTWAVE radio for you Car
call Bob Schneck at RJS ALMOST DIRECT. The Radio is called a "BECKER
MEXICO" Model 2340. Goes for $549.00 ! New dilevered to your door. It
is "Hot", Most of the "Becker" authorized dealers were wanting $1,500
for this unit till Bob cut a special beal with Becker. Bob is a nice guy
and can talk your ear off about this radio. the Number is 1-800-757-3728

I installed a stereo in my 1977 240D this past summer, and there are
some complications with the speaker wireing.
You can find a "how to" that I wrote detailing a stereo installation
on Omar Sidak's "W123 Home Page" at <http://www.conninc.com/w123d/>
By the way, this is Omar's new address, and his old one at
"grotto.com" is no more. Update your bookmarks, as this is a good
Mercedes site to visit, from time to time.

Inside your ORIGINAL Becker, you'll find a long slide switch that
moves back and forth when you change from AM pushbuttons to FM
pushbuttons. I bet if you carefully clean it with denatured alcohol
it will start working again.....just for info.
