Is MB Roadside Assistance enough, or
should I also join the AAA? I know MB does
not cover towing but AAA does.

Both cover flat tires, jump-starts, gas...

MB says it's available for Mercedes of ANY age...
Has anyone ever used their service on a 40 or 50
yrs-old MB just to see if they really are covered?

Thanks for any advice!

My 420SEL is 14 years old and the other day I left my rear light on for 24
hours. The battery drained and would not start. I called the toll-free number
and out comes a truck and started me right up.

I don't plan to own my car for another 25 years but I'm almost positive that if
you owned a 1955 Mercedes They'd come out just to see that fine automobile.

Is this only for the original owner or do subsequent owners get treated
to this same service? I saw the sticker in the glovebox but assumed it
was not meant for me. maybe i should call them next time?

My grandmother's 1971 220D decided not to start one very snowy and chilly
morning in Stow, MA (45 min from Boston) when we had stayed over at her
grand-daughters/my niece's without haing the engine block heater (oooops!).
She first callled AAA. They said it would've been 60-90 minutes for the first
available truck, so then she called MB's roadside assistance - they were there
and had us on our way in 20 min. I was impressed...

First, the MB Assistance will tow as well, but only to the nearest MB
dealer. Understandable, since the dealers support the service. :-) Any
Mercedes of any year, driven by any person is covered. No cards... No
approval... Is there a star on the hood? OK.

So in spite of this experience you went out and bought a second one knowing
'they are not reliable.'

.... what is the "highest level of AAA" ?
free upgrade to the first class seat next
to the tow truck driver? <grin>

Highest Level of AAA = price twice as high but you get much longer free tow and
some other things free too, I think. And the little black label for your bumper
shows plus coverage or something. First class seating next to the truck driver
is included with all forms of AAA insurance, but only when they are towing
(trailering) an MB according to my sources at Heavy Carl's. Also have some
coverage on my regular car insurance now. The MB is NOT AS RELIABLE as other
cars - sorry, just wish they were! They are durable. They are expensive. The
old S class is beautifull. They have a nice ride. The old S class has a nice
big drivers seat. They are safer in collisions than most other cars. They are
not good at steering - too easily distracted from where they are supposed to
go. They run rough at weird times and Hanz und Franz can find nothing to do
about it. And they WILL STRAND YOU ON THE FREEWAY - they are NOT reliable. Just
wish they were.
