3-Series resale value sucks

I was eyeballing the 3-series before I ended up buying the 2006 Lexus
IS. The IS was a full $6.5k less than a comparably equipped 3 series
at that time.

Six years and 255k miles later, the KBB private party value on my car
is $3k higher than same equipped BMW I was eyeballing. Aside from
dealer-maintenance intervals which have cost me right at $1,800 during
that time there have been no repairs.

I'd like to see the average repair bill for a 2006 3-series with a
quarter of a million miles.

Do you think the Germans will ever learn to build a reliable car? I
hope they do. They are fully competitive with Lexus on external
styling, they just fall short in every other category, especially
(imagine this....) keeping the thing running.
