It's too much work.. I use mine for our lino - but vaccuum, mop and then
steam... It's good like that, but being a lazy cow I don't use it that
much...

I bought a steam mop from Kmart on Saturday it cost $119 and I love it!! I
always vacuum or sweep my floors before I mop anyway so there is no extra
work created for me there. I have seen those little 'duck' steam cleaners
but can't see how you do the floor with it - it looks more like an
upholstery steam cleaner. The brand I bought is a "Pirahna" steam MOP and
when I read the instructions, I found out if is from "Funtastic" (how cheap
and crappy does that sound?) and it's great - easy to use and fun, too --
beats lugging around and refilling buckets and saves rinsing and the risk of
over-doing the chemicals.
My friend had a Kenwood steam mop and she said the handle was so flimsy that
it broke in no time and it was a pain as you had to keep refilling the water
compartment. The one I have has a really strong handle and quite a large
water compartment -- I have a large tiled area that I mopped and only used
one container full of water.
I am defintely converted as my floor looks and feels clean and it was so
easy to achieve.

I was wondering about those steam type mops too, now we have a huge tiled
area and I'm after the fastest and easiest way to keep it all clean. Let me
know if you buy and like it.

The one I had ( and friend had the same) was flimsy, and you spent more time
refilling and waiting for it to get hot enough! Bu the time I fart arsed
around filling and waiting I coulda had the floor mopped. Same with thoe
steam duck things, bought one of them and hated it. It doesn't have
continual steam, only spurts. No good for cleaning an oven

I find that it isn't as good as a mop to get off the hard crusty things that
kids have dropped and i haven't noticed... so maybe if you are clean and not
a lazy cow like me, then you won't have this problem.. My MIL has big white
tiles all through her house and uses her steam mop every other day and they
are lovely, clean and shiny...
I have been trying to buy a steam mop for ages as I have been told several
times they are the best and easiest way to clean tiles. I have seen one or
two in Retravision for well over what I wanted to pay and was kinda getting
myself used to the fact that they were expensive. Now I am hugely happy
that I waited.
The Pirahna is ready to use as soon as you put the water in and switch it
on - no waiting for it to 'heat' up. I have had these small pimply like
marks on some of my tiles since from when they were first laid that I
thought were dried up bits of tile adhesive but the steam mop got rid of
them for me without me having to get down on my hands and knees!
And, because the steam is continuosly hot, the floor dries really quickly,
too and it feels so clean under foot!
I haven't been this rapt with an appliance in eons (if ever).

Steam mops are handy if you're sensitive to detergents or house dust and
wet-wash your floor surfaces very regularly. If you are thinking of buying
one, here's what you should consider:
* A water tank that's easy to fill and an easily removable cap.
* Easy to operate controls.
* Indicator lights that show when the power is on and when the water
tank is empty.
* Easy to change cleaning pads (and check where to get replacement pads
and how much they'll cost).
* Quick preheating time.
* A comfortable handle of adequate length, so you don't have to stoop.
* A good length of power cord.
* Reasonably easy push action (this is best checked with a wet pad).
* Stability during storage.
They did a test in 2001 - there would be a lot more on the market now.

Thanks, I'll be interested how it goes...I just spent the good part of an
hour cleaning my floors but need to get down and scrub many stains on the
tiles, a slop with the mop won't move them....hence I'm sitting here
instead...
