Folks,
Just out of curiousity, what are most live sound engineers carrying
with them in their breifcases. Please respond with anything you find
particularly useful or invaluable on a gig or describe the perfect
live-sound breifcase. Thanks for your help,

JP

I'm not a sound man, just a musician who had the good fortune to spend
5 days this summer at a music camp, learning something about sound.

The teacher was the sound man who did the folk festival on the
following weekend. He also did 4 evening performancesthat week, 3
groups each time, as well as day time programs which were part of the
curriculum for various students of the week long music college.

His brief case contained two things: a dozen or so favorite mics that
he likes to use; and 5 pounds of dutch licorice...which I almost
became addicted to, that week.

My perfect briefcase will not fit onto a plane, so I have had to make
concessions and get rid of some stuff. I now carry an anvil mic case with
the 1/2" foam on the inside and 5 Shure mic bags for dividers. I used to
have a road box. and a tackle box, and a computer bag, but it just got to
be too much. I've been looking at one of those Pelican cases with
dividers inside that look like an airline rollaboard, but so far I haven't
purchased one. Maybe next tour...

I carry:
my headphones
Multimeter
SPL meter
ATR3M gooseneck talkback mic
A mic bag filled with audio adaptors to do most common connections
Mic bag with sharpies, pens, hand lotion, sunscreen, and my mixer
mascot, Buzz Lightyear [hey, don't laugh, I won him in a Happy Meal!]
A bag full of asprin, bandaids, protein bars, superglue, electrical tape
Bag with screwdrivers, cutters, knife, pliers, c-wrench, cordless solder iron
White Permacell board tape in 1/2" and 1/4"
My favorite lanyard, the one with the sharpie cap that's zip tied to the
D-ring, and the single AAA maglite.
A box of Altoids for sharing backstage
A Cinnamon Altoids box full of foamies (earplugs)

Just be sure you don't reach for a protein bar and get the superglue by
accident.

the single AAA maglite.

Just got a streamlight stylus from the local cop shop.
Plenty bright and 100,000 hour led so no bulb breakage
(unless you REALLY tried). Blue, red, or white. Uses
AAAA batteries and is about the size of a pen.

Looks like it should hold up nicely. Time will tell.
