Newbie question:
I'm running a group of channels into an empty mixer channel with an external
processor.in series in the loop. Is using the empty channel's insert jack
electrically/functionally the same as placing the external processor in
series?

and slightly different electrically. The eletrical diffrence is only that
the processor will be on different sides of the mixer's first input stage.
Get the gain staging correct and the difference should be moot.
