Sennheiser should stick to mics which they do very well. Though I
haven't heard this speaker system yet, I have yet to hear anything
good about it from people who have. I guess the K stands for "krap"

These are only distributed by Sennheiser-US. Made by some Italian company...

I've actually heard this Bose look-alike at an outdoor street show in
Albany, NY last summer, but didn't realize the Sennheiser link I posted
was the same company.

It actually sounded decent. I was surprised how much sound came out of
such a small stick.

this is a rapid growing italian company.
The linearray product was subject to big changes in the last years. Many
problems at the first stage but now is quite good.
Never try to use it in a live sound environment with the dipolar flat
sub unit!!! Always use this one for prerecorded music only such as dj's
and electronic, the rear lobe will make hard to use microhones on stage.
You can use the mid high unit in live environment providing the
"traditional" soobwofer, made by the same company, is used instead the
flat one. They worked a lot to prevent the flat sub to have too much
rear lobe but traditional design is still better, while is harder to
transport...
I expect to see many nice projects coming out from that company in the
future, they loves what they do...

Any idea what box or system pricing is? A dipole sub sounds like a
really bad idea all around. what were they thinking?

Rupert.

It was an early stage problem because they tested the system in lab with
prerecorded music and NO microphones i think. Whith time the unit was
corrected to have a less prominent rear lobe but is still a compromise
solution.
Then they developed a traditional vented subwoofer around a 21' (!)
neodymium cone, but still produce the dipole (ks4) because is perfect
where prerecorded music is to be used and there's no room for
traditional subs on the floor.
No idea about the price, every distributor has one. The kh4 cost about
4000€ but i may be wrong. (speakers, amps and processor in the same box)

by the way you can still use the ks4 for live, providing that you
position the unit very carefull in order to keep the stage microphones
away from the front and rear lobe

It's an Italian product that's distributed by Sennheiser in Canada & the
USA (and possibly other countries?)

I've used the K-Array powered line array system - KH4/KS4 & whatever
that dual 21" sub is called - and the KR100 system, which looks kinda
like the Bose "sticks over subs" rig.

The KR100 is the smallest of 3 "Bose look-alike" systems. I found the
sound to be more than acceptable for music playback but a little strange
with a band - the sound seems almost omnidirectional.

I heard one of the "big brother" KR400 systems on Saturday past in a
hotel bar - pop/rock bands and a jazz vocal/piano duo. Sounded pretty
good. Bass was a sometimes a little overpowering, but that might have
been the fault of whoever was mixing.

The KH4/KS4 line array boxes look really unusual - they don't appear to
be much deeper than a flat screen television. I used the system in a
1200 capacity ballroom. The system sounded really good with music
playback. With a live band, to my ears the high frequencies sounded a
little harsh and the low midrange seemed lacking. I wouldn't refuse to
use the system again if it were offered, but I would want to speak with
a Sennheiser live sound specialist for advice on the hang and on
recommended EQ presets.
