They had one of these vocal processors. Horrible units but they liked it and
it was pretty central to their sound. Only problem was as soon as they ran
it into the monitors it fed back. The house guy did everything he could
think of to stop it but decided it was impossible and told them they
couldn't use it. While I didn't want to step on his toes I had to step in
and explain that all he had to do was split it at the mic and send a mostly
clean signal through the monitors with just a hint of the effects unit so
the vocalist could hear it. I got all sorts of abuse with the usual "I've
been doing this 20 years and I know what I'm doing" crap. The band ended up
insisting he tried it at which point he lost his rag, tried to hit me and
then stormed out. Turns out he was a guitarist who told them he could do
sound but his attitude had led to several regular acts refusing to play
there.
When the club manager arrived it was down to me to explain what had
happened. The manager was actually quite relieved as he was going to fire
him anyway, offered me the job (didn't pay enough) and I ended up finding
someone for him. I ended up running the whole night and got well paid for
getting him out of a fix.

Hmm, i read a lot of guitarists, who are born loosers at the mixing
console.
Is this common? I played guitar for several years, and i hope i will
not end up like this :-)) Because, currently i try to get into live
sound, after doing a lot of recording the last years (only little
electronic projects, nothing that kicks ass). Now i really miss
guitars and real drums....

I think You just answered Your own question,
If Your a "born a looser", then, no matter what You do, You'll be an ass at it.
If Your level headed, and possess a bit of logic, and common sense,
It will show in all of life, whether Your a guitar player or not. ;-)
