I'm doing an A/V install in a trade show booth. The client wants run video,
via DVD player, to 7 - 52" plasma screens scattered around the exhibit. I
would like to daisy-chain these screens. Will I need some form of amp or
booster for the video signal? The screens will be approx. 75' apart. Thanks.

You'll need 1 or more distribution amplifiers to feed signal from the
source to the 7 monitors.

chaining more then 2 or 3 is pushing your luck. on some setups where power
is funky a ground loop blocker is needed to get interference out of the
picture.

this is a video version of a direct box. if your D/A has isolated outputs
you will be ahead of the game. use good 75 ohm shielded cable with well made
connectors.

Ideally you should home run from a video distro amp
(Pico make decent head end gear)to each tv I would opt for multi dvd copys
and players at each tv
wiring in a confrence center could be problematic
unless the building has the wiring already built in
many do, you should ask

there are Baluns that let you distribute video on Cat 5 wiring
as well as low power broadcast options
Consulte with the facility to see what they offer in house

Given someone is spending the $$ on 7 x 52" plasmas, I suggest you rent a
5-wire distribution amp and the cables to make this work. Daisy-chaining
RS170/compositve video (with or without a distribution amp) likely won't
look great - even 1 RS170 feed might not look as good as a component video
feed will.

I wouldn't recomend daisy-chaining (you can sometimes get away with this for
compostie video if you are not too concerned about picture quality eg CCTV
relay)

for Y/C, component or RGB/S/HV its a simple "dont do dat"

The best way is to hire / buy a good quality (eg Extron, Kramer) video
Distribution Amp that splits to the number of plasmas you are using and run
individual cables back to it

If the DVD player has a component (YUV) or RGB/S/HV output then I would
recomend running to that video standard as it yields a better image
uality - countered by the extra expense (in cabling and DAs)

note: the DA does not neccessarily need to be beside the player and if its
more convenient you may be able to cascade 2 smaller DAs, but this is not
guaranteed to work and recomend using the same manufacturer for all DAs
used)

As Dennis mentioned if they can afford 7x 52" plasma then they can afford
one wee video DA and the neccessary cabling

Thanks for all the quality responses. You've convinced me to stick to
sound, and sub this last-minute project off to someone that knows how to do
the job right.

I, just today, bought a Radio Shack (forgive me) video distribution
amplifier w/ 1-in & 4-outs.
It is priced just under $45.00 (USA) including tax.
You'd need two of them.
It has RCA & S-Video ins & outs as well as stereo audio ins & outs.
It is an active AC (wall wart) powered distribution amplifier.
No signal loss.

Your plasma TV's may well have a loop through on them
in > out

you could daisy chain them, and 75 foot shoud be fine for a composite run
without the need for booster
