It has just come to my attention that a request for a serial number was
posted to this newsgroup some time ago using my email address.
PLEASE BE ADVISE I DONOT WANT A SERIAL NUMBER NOR DO I IN ANY WAY ENCOURAGE
THE USE OF ILLEGALLY
OBTAIN SOFTWARE OR MUSIC.
This request was made by an over ambtious co-op student in our shop. I have
made it clear to the young lad what it is he is doing by obtaining
software/music by this method. Rather then letting him go (Kid's a hard
worker with smarts - we all make mistakes - don't being to try to say you
haven't) I will be making every effort to include him in the finanical end
of a business, in the hope real world exposure to this problem will help him
understand this problem. It's hard to fault these kids when it's appear to
them all their lives this is an acceptable way of doing things. We as adults
do not do anything to stop this - when was the last time you wrote a
goverment member to voice your opinion against this. If you haven't then
don't fault the kid, let's educate him.
In closing I can only say we have no one as parents to blame but ourself
that this problem exsist. Maybe if everyone took more effort in parenting
their children, we would not have a world with NO MORAL regard for the thief
of software/music on the internet.

Thanks

As a matter of fact, I think the adults here Did do something to stop
this, quite effectively.

Sadly, though. Here in this "triple income just to survive" society, It
falls much more on the teachers (like You) to tell the little spoiled
brats to go get a job ... or SOMETHING other than have a "friend"
pester us for a thousand dollar serial #.

I know You barely get paid enough to handle such initiatives, but the
blame does not lay with parents or teachers, alone. It lays with an
overall lack of individual attention from all disciplinarians, from
police to Gov't trade commissions .. to the big 5 software
manufacturers, who egotistically believe their codes are uncrackable.

Because when We grew up, people didn't expect instant gratification, no
less such gratification coming in via a world wide computer network!
Many of the people in positions to stop this, are too old to even give a
sh*t about computers. (Remember "I, Robot"?)

Last week, and again 6 months ago.
Every time someone posts a request like this.

Educate him by telling him that If He wants to drive the car, He must
make the
payments .. Like every other man in the "free" world!!

I'm Not a Parent, and a voluntary surgical procedure guarantees I shall
never be!

YOU, sir, ARE a disciplinarian. And right this second, You are teaching
this kid, that
begging and stealing WORKS. Because You are unconsciously "taking the
heat" for the kid in question. How is this teaching this fella the
cause and effect of his actions?

Give him the scare of his life!
Get an off duty cop and the principal "in on it", and have the fuzz drag
You away in cuffs for software theft during his class! If the kid has
any cooth, he will stand and be counted, if He respects You.

Whadaya think? ;-)
