I'm not an expert. I heard a set briefly at GC recently and was not
impressed. I liked the lower mids but I heard no extension in either
the high or low end. They sounded very band-limited, IMO. I think
there's much better out there for the same $, or I think you can find
similar quality for less $. If you were hiring out, the Turbosound
name might sound rider-friendly, but since it's for your band, I'd
keep looking and look some more. They sounded a bit like Mackie
SRM450s to me - and I'm rather neutral on those. Maybe you can wait
until the Mackie 350s come out and give those a listen. Not that I'm
pushing Mackie - there's lots of good stuff out there. See if you can
audition some SLS or FBT or newer EV cabs. Keep looking.

Do it, but A-B them with the 121 - better midrange for me. Also if your
budget will stretch the TQ310 makes similar output from a smaller box with
even better midrange - I've got a rig composing 2x TQ310 and 2x TXD 215 -
very punchy, makes 113db at mix (about 15m) from two Pulse 1100 amps with a
Driverack PA controlling it and sounds great. Q-Lite tops are way way better
than the TXDs and smaller too. There's now a self-powered TQ310... My
pockets are rattling again, time to get rid of my martin bar rig I think
(the Turbos are installed)
Oh, and get them in black if they're for indoor use, the blue looks odd in
indoor lighting, but nice outdoors.
I will echo Tim's comments. The TXD121 midrange appears smoother to me
compared to the 151. Alongside the "plastic fantastics" they appear less
"boomy" , which may be just my perception, but I suspect it is a wood
versus plastic thing.
I team a pair of 121s with a pair of TXD118s driven by a throttled back
LabGruppen fp6400 ... Monitors are TQ310 ..
The 121s at 20kg are some 8kg (~16 lb) lighter than the 151, and only a
couple of db less SPL so think of your back.
If you decide that you can spring for the TQ310s, factor in a suitable
processor. You can run them without, but you will need to EQ carefully
to get the best out of them. (Note for myself ... must investigate
bi-amping them like their big brother TQ440)
Tim .. Had a gig a couple of weeks back that, just before sound check,
one of the band (total unknowns) started complaining that "the monitors
(310s) are too small ... we said we must have 15s ... we must have the
monitors LOUD ..."
Promoters answer (good guy) was along the lines of " there's not enough
room on the stage for f..king 15s with all that other c..p you've
dragged in .. live with it!.
We go through the usual SC stuff , with the talent mumbling on about
mons not being loud enough etc .. when I notice that my guy on the desk
had the mons pulled well down and was asking if the Mix was OK .. answer
was yea, it's fine, just not loud enough. Good, says my guy, get on with
it then, and just as they started into their first song, my guy pushes
the mons up to a level he had predetermined before SC. The talent
started and stopped dead. " Ahhh, could you take the mons down a bit
...
The promoters comments after the gig were that he 'forgot' to tell us
about the 'demands' because he knew we could 'deal with it'. My guy had
heard the talent talking as they were setting up and had an idea of what
was coming. 8-)
Indeed they show the usual turbo trait of not trying to do things that they
can't do well - at the price they would never be able to do brilliant top
and bottom, so they don't try.

Yeah - problem is that there's no crossover bypass on the 310 (is on the
315). They sound great passive though, as you say a processor is handy but
they work remarkably well without.

One guy I have regular in our Church (maybe 3-4 times a year) insists our dB
412s that we have in as monitors are not loud enough and insists on using a
pair (yes, a pair) of Eon G2 15" for himself. He plays acoustic guitar and
sings... and his monitor mix is mainly guitar and drums. I reckon too many
years on the scene has knackered his hearing.
The 310 is a mega nice box, similar in concept and sound to a PS10 but seems
to go louder. Now there's a self powered version I'm starting to want to
spend money again!
What's a good (realistic) price for the TQ310s? They seem to list at around
$1800 each, which is a bit out of my league right now.

Do you mind if I ask where from? was that inc or ex vat? Concert systems list
them at 652 plus, giving 766 inc. add a plx3402 to drive them - quite neatly
rated at 700 wpc into 8ohms at 975 and they should be quite nice...
Given I already have one CPX1500 (300 wpc into 8 or 1K into 8 bridged) that may
be a cheap way to get a pair running - just add a second amp @ £360...
SLC (http://www.sound-light-company.co.uk/) list them at 668 inc...
That's quite a bit of power for a 10" box.
Quite a bit more compact than my SRM450s too...
I suppose going two amps bridges would be a nice easy transition from my mackie
rig - put each amp into it's own case and I can run from the high out from my
subs at each side of the stage and about a 2m speaker leads.
This may prove to be a costly thread...

That was exvat, from Pete Brotzman at Crystal Pro Audio (nice guy) - did a
cracking deal on them, the subs and the amp and controller -
www.crystalpro.demon.co.uk - Pete and Tim are top guys - ask many of the
guys here!
