ROTFL
Pretty much spot on. Phil saddens me though- if he could get himself under
control there is some worth there. he actually has a good brain, it's just
emotionally he is a train wreck.

Contrasted to say- Arny- who is virtually useless, posts wrong info and
argues about it, then just generally shows his ass, Phil is wonderful On
technical issues you can generally believe Phil...he's rarely but sometimes
wrong.

On a tech issue- frankly I would take his word over pretty much anybody
here.

Any kind of business or other issue- and he flames worse than a drag queen
being burned at the stake. One or two words can send him into a name calling
tirade that goes on and on.

I've employed guys like Phil. You can often get very skilled workers at a
bargain by doing so.

Just have to have a back room with a closed door for them to work behind.

Conversely, I've always found that no matter how good a guys skills or chops
are, if they're an asshole with attitude issues, I'm better off without them
in the long run. Cause it always comes back to bite you when you least need
it, if you decide to stick with them.

Just goes to show Liquidator that you can't tell a head from an ass.

Liquidator, it is quite clear that you equate people who are abusive with
people who you feel are authoritative about audio - given your worship of
the two Phil's.

That all said, Phil generally gets things right, when he properly
understands the question, which is not all of the time.

He bears a similarity to Arnii in that he engages in lengthy, nonsensical
flame wars, and will never admit when he's wrong. They are also similar
in their delusional airs of superiority. Based on what they post here, I'd never
hire either one.

Good one. Though, you left out the tourettes symptoms.

Arnii and Allison are the only two here that I will not reply to, or
otherwise engage. Arnii because he simply doesn't know the work, Phil because
he's just too over the top with his unwarranted abusive name-calling.

If I were you Liquid-brain, I'd choose to be shot at by Phil. I served with
the most blood-thirsty (number of kills this millenium and most of the last)
Army in the world. I'm a trained professional killer that qualified well

Eh ? Guitarists mate ! They often have ZERO discipline in the volume control
department. However a strategically placed stage monitor can give them a fright
! I still have memories of a particular example from some 35 years ago .....
it was quite funny. Never seen anyone jump quite so fast on stage before or
since.

For the first time a few years back I came across a tiresome keyboard player
actually. First time I've met one of those.

Have you noticed how I can't be bothered wasting my time by responding to

point wasting energy over them. I respond to FACTUAL errors they may post but

him tho.

btw, I was out with Wishbone Ash again last weekend, they are all on
IEM`s now, a system called HearBack, each has his own little digital
mixer, all connected together by cat5. The system seems to work well,
tho I`ve noticed that a lot of bands, once they get used to in ears,
play far louder on stage than before. WA certainly do!

I get your point, but it's kinda like saying you'd eat moldy bread before
eating rancid meat. Not much of a bar you're setting though.
But don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing to start a flame war, just saying
IME I've found out the hard way that one is far better off working with
positive people, cause as George also agreed with, skills can be
learned/taught, but attitude and/or character isn't something that can be

Just an observation, but why are such a large percentage of the wacko's on
NG's former military? I understand the toll that type of career could mess
with one's head, but the tendancy is to still be involved in a fight, even
if it's just in a text based forum.
I don't want to slam all veterans, most probably go on to normal lives, but
I have noticed a common link to many of the more obnoxious characters that
stink up NG's.

That does explain a lot though, and especially AK's 'need' to win every

ROTFL OK- you win.

Not much of a bar you're setting though.

True- it's just different things bother different people- someone nice but
dishonest to me is ten times slimier than Phil...your mileage may vary.

Nah- frankly- you make sense in your posts- I might argue with ya, but I
don't flame people who make sense- or at least attempt not to.

Arny Krooger expert in everything who makes so many basic technical errors
obviously makes no sense- how can one be an expert and make so many errors?

Simple- POSER.

Posers rank somewhere on the life scale between protozoa and rocks.
Virtually EVERY bad business deal Ive done has involved a poser. Many with
assholes have been successful- we both made money.

My definition of a good deal... I'm at a flea market- with an item priced
at fifteen bucks- you offer ten.

You walk away snickering to yourself you would have paid the fifteen.

I'm sitting there snickering that I would have taken 5.

If we are both assholes- who cares- no harm done.

I think it's more a case of wackos finding it necessary to mention
their service, as a way to bolster their perceived credibility. There's
a total wack job in my area who is an habitual writer of letters to
the editor of the local papers. He constantly makes mention of his
status as an ex Marine, even when the topic is totally unrelated.
His pet peeves are immigrants, acceptance of gays, and is a
proponent of book banning in schools. IOW, a total wack job.

Then, there's folks like me. I was drafted in 1968. The US Army
thought I was too much of a "wacko" and let me go. It was all
planned by me, and basically an act. But, I managed to outsmart
them, and avoid a trip to SE Asia. So, it doesn't bother me if they
considered me a wacko. I saw most of them as such.

Wow- Wishbone Ash. Loved them. Doubt they remember playing the Agora in

then. Great guys, great music.

Prolly one of my faves from that part of my life, along with Trapeze. Focus
was a lot of fun, but the manager whisked them in and out, no chance to do
anything other that the show.

The Agora did benefit concerts for local charities on Monday nights.
Trapeze was pretty much stuck here and broke. The Agora had a band house
where they could stay., end unit in what we call a "row house" here in
central US- essentially 4 two story apartments built as a unit, usually
brick.

Managed to convince the charity folks to let them play and give them the
door proceeds.

Sadly, about 150 saw them on Sunday, but Monday we gave them a 1200 crowd
and were able to give them a couple hundred bucks, not a lot but gas was 33
cents then. Different times..I prolly wasn't as cranky back then...

I set up and babysat the system, and engineered the support act.
They have their own engineer, who is very capable tho I suspect he has
some upper range hearing loss as he gets a very glassy sound on the
vocals and doesn't seem to notice squeals of very high frequency feedback.
In my opinion the band were too loud on stage, something they didnt
realise themselves until I pointed it out to them later.

Perfomance wise, they are better now than they've ever been, tho there
are a couple of pretty ropey vids on YouTube!

The foldback system consisted of a HearBack unit for each band member,
fed by cat5 from the Hearback's own head unit which was fed from a
Yamaha digital desk. My multi was connected to their splitter box. The
in-ears were Shure wireless. It all seems to work well, tho i`m a bit
dubious about using computer grade cat5 on stage, I can forsee problems
there.

If anybody's interested.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapeze_(band)
Trapeze were an English rock band formed in March 1969, by vocalist John
Jones and guitarist/keyboardist Terry Rowley (who named the band), with
guitarist Mel Galley, singer/bassist Glenn Hughes, and drummer Dave Holland.
The band had a fairly fluid line up, finally dissolving in 1994, and
although they never found commercial success themselves, several members
went on to join better known bands including Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Judas
Priest and Uriah Heep.

Yup, the conductors of traditional CAT5 are solid 24 gauge in a fairly thin
jacket, not exactly stage-proof.

Stranded CAT5 are readily available, but it is avoided because it costs
more, uses different connectors, and has a shorter effective range.

Yes, we need CAT5 with a sheath like a heavy-duty power cord.

I don't think that would work because a lot of these CAT-5 applications
aren't 10base anything. They just use the same cable.

I would have to her some of their songs to see if I really knew the music. Must have.
Someone from the band was on one of my Ebay auctions for a Spectra Sonics
