TIA, RB
I own one, and have played with it extensively. what do you want to
know?
and which features did you intend to use the most?
Jason
Well, I find the Behriger manuals quite okay. No problem at all. What
are you missing? What are your questions for a faq? Perhaps I can help.
Timo
We plan on using most of the 8024's features for live sound, but mostly the
EQ, RTA, and Auto Q. It will also do duty in my home studio. The signal path
for the live sound right now is going from the main outs of our Mackie
1604-VLZ Pro mixer (balanced XLR for the whole path) into a ART DSP tube
preamp for warmth, then into the Ultra Curve, then into the Behringer
Super-X Pro crossover (2 way stereo with the low end summed to one Mackie
amp and the stereo high end into another Mackie amp. We are running our
Peavey cabs biamped.
Would there be any benefit to running the Ultra Curve into the main inserts?
My main question at this point is on setting the levels for the Ultra Curve.
I understand that the input level is set by what I am outputting from the
pre amp. I understand that the output level is set by the master fader in
the EQ window. I understand the +4, -10, and DigiMax reference points. My
question(s) is, are there other input and output level controls internal to
operating system of the unit? Are there controls for the Digimax that set
the level between the AD and DA converters?
I am also having problems using the remote software. I cannot even get a
midi signal to light up the midi LED on the Ultra Curve, let alone control
the unit. My midi system is working fine on other units. I've tried all kind
of different midi settings on both the EQ and the software, but no luck so
far. I have a letter into Behringer on these issues, but would appreciate
any tips you have.
Thank you so much, Jim

Nothing that is exposed to the user. The only EQ level you can control
(overall) is with the master fader for each channel.

Couple of suggestions here... For simplicity, turn everything on in the MIDI
Setup. Take everything else out of the MIDI chain. Then, send a memory dump
from the 8024. Take a look at the send/receive lights on your MIDI
interface. Repeat sending the memory dump as necessary. Diagnosing MIDI
problems is more intensive than diagnosing mis-wired cables. My goal would
be to get it working by itself first, and then introduce more complexity to
the setup.
Hope that helps.

I have a DSP8024 but have never used the Midi control. Don't the
Behringer units come from the factory with Midi disabled? I thought
I saw in the manual that you have to enable it with a magic button
sequence at power up. (After that it stays enabled) I could just
be wrong but sometimes the simplest answer is the right one! :-)

it depends which features you're using..
if you plan to use it as a limiter then typically you would want it as
the last unit before the amplifier (or crossover in your case)

no. Digimax is just that.. it's the level at which there is no higher
number. so you get digital clipping.
the only way to deal with it (if you're really driving it that hard)
is to pad the signal before the unit and make up the gain later in the
signal chain (maybe at your crossover or amps)

it took me a long while to get the midi working. I don't know if it's
a problem with the manual of if it's just my lack of experience with
midi but the manual wasn't very helpful.
in the software you get a nice pretty window with all sorts of stuff,
but if you minimize that you see that there's also the more bare bones
controls. and there are some features there that you don't get in the
main window. the most useful being the "search DSP 8024" button.
keep trying that every time you change settings on the unit and it
should let you know when it finds something.
on the unit itself you pretty much have to turn everything on in the
midi menu as someone else mentioned. if you're not using any other
midi devices then I think omni mode is your best bet.
ps: anyone know if you can do a midi dump from one 8024 to another?
I was thinking of using mine to save the settings of installed units
and then bringing it home to re-save to my computer. then later if I
had a failure in the field I could pre-load a loaner unit with the
proper settings :)
