Here's the dilemma now. I blew the poweramp in the 808M and I have no idea
the cost to repair this. I also blew a 15 in one of the Eliminator i's. I
always liked the sound I got from the Eliminators and I was considering
sending the speaker out for repair. Does anyone have any experience with
Orange County Speaker repairs? Found them online and wondered if this is a
good route.
If I don't repair the mackie 808m for the small system I was thinking of
getting a new powered mixer. I was thinking of getting a Behringer PMX300
and getting rid of the CFX12 since the PMX3000 is powered I can use it for
both systems and get rid of the Powerbase 2 also. I can use the power from
the PMX to power my monitors and still use the EP2500 for mains. Then for
the small system I'd use the PMX and EV 12's.
I guess my question indirectly is. Is the PMX3000 a step up from the CFX12?
and also it seems the onboard poweramp doesn't seem to throw a lot of power
2x200 @8ohm and 2x400 @4ohm or 1x800 bridged mono. Will this be enough to
power monitors and the small system with EV 12 rated at 250rms?
Sorry my post was so scattered. Any input opinions or advice is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks
John

Does the job. But its not really big enough for what you want.
You're more likely to blow more things up using underpowered amps. I would
really suggest a bigger powered desk if you must have powered. Failing that
whats wrong with using an unpowered desk.. Like your CFX12 (if you must,
although if you are on the road to buying a desk i'd stay clear of mackie,
only a personal opinion though) and getting an amp?
Where are you based. The behringer EP1500 and Ep2500 are coming down in
price all the time.

I want to keep system 2 as small as possible and not a huge setup. It's for
a place we play every Friday and I want to keep the system there. Also the
space we play in is very confined so I want to go with a powered mixer so I
dont have to keep a rack with an amp there. Whats the best bang for the
buck out there regarding powered mixers?
Thanks Rob
So did I. The driver is an EV DL15BFH. You have two options.. re-cone,
or replace. Sorry I don't know about the dealer you mentioned. EV has
a zip code search on their web site to find authorized dealers that do
speaker repair. They also have factory service contacts listed.
As far as replacing the driver, the best price I found was from Canal
HiFi in NYC. They're about $50 less than everyone else, hardly more
than having them reconed. It's not listed on their site but I got it
from them. Try calling them.
BTW sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but if you have to ship the
speaker, or even bring it in, you don't have to bring the whole speaker.
You can easily remove the driver yourself and just ship that. Much
cheaper that way :)

OC Speaker has been around for years and does good work. They've got
dealerships with just about every driver manufacturer out there, so
they can recone just about anything.

Check out the Yorkville powered mixers..... The larger ones are 16 or
22 input channels and 4 amp channels (2 main and 2 monitors).

If the repair for the Mackie 808M isn't too much, but of course, depending
on why the poweramp blew in the first place, I'd keep the Mackie.

Initially I thought it was blown. We were playing a show and brought along
a sax player and during the 2nd set everything just went blank. At first I
thought it was the slow blow fuse cause I had to change one of them the year
before but looking at the mixer I still had led lights so it wasnt that.
Since I had input signal and no output coming from it I thought it was the
amp or both.
Took it to the repair shop and the guy called me and said it was an amp
cooked. Then 4 days later calls me and tells me "Nope it's fine now"
Basically I don't want to take the chance with this Mackie anymore and I've
heard great things about the Behringer mixers. I already own an eq,
compressor and Power amp by them and havent had a problem yet.
Anyone out there have an opinion regarding the Behringer PMH3000 or the idea
of going from a unpowered CFX12 and a 808M to a PMH3000 even if I bypass the
onboard amp of it?
Thanks
