My band has an out-of-town club gig in Rochester, NY scheduled for July.
Can anyone suggest a reputable sound co. to contact about renting some PA
gear for the night? Our engineer will be bringing along his own effects
rack.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

The voices in the head of Mark Barnes uttered these words to the inhabitants
of alt.audio.pro.live-sound.

If you are talking in/near Philadelphia, I'd recommend Starlite Productions
in Cherry Hill, NJ 1-856-849-9000 or www.starlite.com. For audio ask for Gus
Gomez, Stage/Theatre lighting ask for Bob Wolfe and Video, ask for Bill
Barnes.

We are located in Rochester, NY and can provide PA gear to cover
everything from a small bar setup to an arena..... Call Sebastian at the
shop and he can work out the details with you. Phone number is 585-266-5450

As a side note for those lurking, we also have 4000sq ft of staging, 2
Thomas 40x40ft roofs and 240K of lighting.

I took a peek at your schedule on your website... Canandaigua is
located outside of Rochester. So, there's two shows in our area.

George doesn't have crap. He has a very decent rig and does a great
job.
Where we differ from George in mainly in staging and roofs. We
currently have two Thomas 40x40 roof systems (1 - four tower and 1 - six
tower), each with 120K of lighting and 2000 square feet of stage.

oh, woah guys, i didn't mean to imply that George didn't have a good rig or
anything like that.. In fact I thought it was rather large.. and if Mike had
2 to 3 times more stuff thats alot.. all I was saying.
Sorry for the confusion.

Adair my front is 3 a side Meyer msl3a and 3 a side eaw Bh800
i have a 8 mix monitor rig of SLS us1290(which also double as Front for
smallish shows)
my real claim to fame is my BIG open space outdoor rig of Community R2 /r.5
speakers that I fly off st24s i can provide even delay free coverage to
about 100 acres circular or two miles of straight line
this is something no body esle is offering in my area
Music is fastly becomeing secondairy to my company
there are just too many people underbidding the few decent shows
good gear is so affordable than anyone can own a concert rig with just a
small bit of dedication
I can actually get hired and retain my contracts without compitition for
large hot rod shows, balloon festival, local running events
set out one genie with a R2 and two R.5 a behringer 802 mixer a powersoft
amp and a cad 22a switched mic at 6 am
then sleep in a lounge chair until it is time to spend 20 minutes picking it
up at 4 pm
go home with 500$ not a bad way to spend a sunday
plus 95% of the work is within 20 miles of my shop
no lights , no monitors, no mixing, one mic(no stand), one cd player,
possibly a 2000 watt generator.

I have to agree in this one, I do a lot of corporate work also.
Granted the rock glam aint there, but it pays better and is easier in
the back than a rock gig.

George, I honestly think you could make more than 5 bills doing this.
I can supply 2 mackie SRM450, a wireless, a small mixer and cd player
for 24 hours unattended. Get it there in a car set it up and tear it
down and walk with a grand. Dude, I'm in freaking Illinois, not NY.
Standard of living here is probably a tach lower than yours. But on
the other hand this is a very large corporate client and I take care
of them. Did the trade show touring thing for a while, talk about easy
money. But, I still go back to the rock for thrills. Rock for me is
like fishing for some people, gets the tension out!

I do get much better pay from my :new" client
but I am loyal to the first guys who gave me my start and first trusted me
its not always about the $
I have a core of about 12 or so clients that have been with me from the get
go and they have been responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in
referrals
I keep thier prices very affordable

Damn I've done alot of raves! A laptop with a DVD player and a set of
Sony V700's will save your sanity. The raves are OK it's the gun
yeilding hip-hop shows that make me want to invest in some Kevlar!
Pill heads never fight!

But I really can't say squat, I AM a former DJ (ahem, turntablist).
Every now and then I come out of my hole and hit it again. You
sohould see the PA company guys face when I ask for a sound check,
have him stare at the limiters, I run the system up and tell him to
flash his mag at me when I hit limit, then tell him he will never see
them again during my set, AND DONT HIT THEM!

Have you ever seen that!?!?

I call bullshit. You can't possibly be a DJ, cause you know what the word
"limiter" means. Only DJ's who return a blank stare upon the mention of
that word are allowed to wear the 'DJ' button. ;-)

You're gonna have to re-label yourself. Any takers for Chad's new title?

Mixmaster C?
Balls to tha Wahls?
Soundin' a Poundin' ?
