If you know anyone who has SonicStage, try to get it off them, as it is a
much improved successor to OMG. And before anyone says that's illegal to
use someone else's copy, well Sony were asking for it for producing such a
sub-standard piece of software.

I don't see why it should be illegal to use a software you can freely
download from the official site...
IIRC, you can't download and install the PROGRAM, just the updates.
It seems to me (but I'm not 100% sure) that I installed the software
with the online setup, without having any other version installed.
Last time I even made sure the MD was there, showed up in "My Computer"
and everything.
But I do not think I've ever had it find the MD on the 1st try, Nearly
always finds it on a re-start though.
That computer, I will admit, has some "location" problems though.. It
usually can not find the internet on the 1st try either

My personal opinion here (For the record I'm not a lawyer so my opinion
and <insert price of a cup of coffee here, do not forget tax and tip>
will get you exactly one cup of coffee.
But my personal opinion when it comes to hardware specific software
(That is, software that is of no real use unless you own the hardware to
run it on) is that any one who can use it is entitled to it free.
After all, it's included "free" with the hardware. If your copy is
somehow effective, I've no problem providing a copy of my copy since it
has the ultimate in "non-authorized use prevention" Which is to say
If you own the hardware, You are an authorized user
If you don't possess the hardware... You can't use it
Note: That does leave room for unauthorized use (Stolen hardware) but
for the moment we will let the authorities deal with that one.
I don't know if that would stand up in court, but it certainly sounds very
sensible. Now try explaining it to Sony!

I'm afraid I left something out or spoke misleadingly in the previous
post...
Instead of "That is software that is of no use unless you have the
specific hardware...."
I should have said "That is software that is included FREE with the
hardware"
So, the explanation to Sony is this: Since Sonic Stage (I think version
2.1) is included FREE with every Net-MD device including all HI-MD
units, the ownership of a HI-MD entitles one to have the software and/or
is evidence of purchase of the software.
And that is how I'd present it... Of course in my case I do happen to
have a sales slip from a legitimate retailer for the Hi-MD (I'm the
original owner) but that is my case
