Hi folks,

I'm looking for a way to adapt the mic stand from my Sony ECM-MS907 Stereo
mic to a small camera tripod. There's mic stand adapters out there that fit
the 1/4" stud on a tripod, but the threaded hole in the Sony mic stand is
about 3/4" diameter instead of the standard mic stand diameter (about 1/2").
I don't know what Sony was thinking. Maybe the stand is compatible with
some other equipment they make.

Anybody out there know of a way to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

All the best,

PS It just occurred to this "provincial" American that the Sony mic stand
is probably spec'd in metric rather than English units. Sure enough, the
hole looks like it's 2 cm in diameter. Makes sense to me.

European mic stand standard thread is 3/8" BSW ('Whitworth')
American mic stand standard thread is 5/8" 27-TPI Unified Thread
Photographic tripod screw standard thread is 1/4"

Adaptors are available to convert all of the above to each other. I
could tell you where in the UK - email me!

Well first you use the included mic stand adapter to adapt the Sony mic clip
to a standard mic stand, then the tripod adapter to make it fit the tripod.

Or, if you have lost the original adapter, Then go to Radio Shack (or any
store selling radio gear) Get a PL259 Coaxial plug, Use the shell off it as
an adapter and epoxy it inside the Sony Mic clip (what I did) so happens it's
the same thread and size as many mic stands, though I did find it a tight fit
on some stands. Then use the Mic to Tripod adapters.

Hi John,

Great suggestion. I may try the coax plug idea.

By the way, my mic came with no adapter for the stand. I most definitely
would have kept that piece of gear. All that I got were the supplied
accessories listed in the accompanying manual - wind screen, microphone
holder and carrying case.

However, the manual did call out the size of the mic stand mounting hole as
"PF 1/2".

All the best,

Steve

I have the same problem. I've found that the 1/2 inch screw hole will actually fit the thread at the end of a 1/2 inch water pipe for plumbing. The pipe is 1/2 inch inside, so of course the outside is much thicker.
I have no idea why Sony has done this, as I can't imagine anyone wanting to mount his microphone to the end of such a pipe.
I have found a fitting that goes from 1/2 to 3/8 but unfortunately it's for 3/8 inch water pipes also, which are of course much thicker than a 3/8 inch microphone stand.
I have yet to find any adapter that will take me from plumbing to audio equipment.

I naively bought a PT1/2 to 1/4 adapter
https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0102IUWS4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
The PT1/2 side works perfectly but the 1/4 does not equal a quarter inch or 3/8 inch. I thought I could find a reasonable diametre correspondence. A mm comparison between the PT sizes and the UNC sizes shows that there no comparable sizes and that is before you start looking at the thread pitch. In short, one has to wonder why Sony chose this size.
