Hi-
I know very little about these minidisc recorders, but I'd like to record live
performances for personal review. The price difference between the two is over
$200- but I can't seem to be able to differentiate (except for speed - 64X)
any major difference. HELP.
thanks

The biggest difference is that the MZ-NE410 doesn't have line or mic
inputs, and the MZ-N10 has both a line and a mic input. If you want
to do live recordings, the MZ-NE410 simply won't work. That doesn't
mean you have to go with the (expensive) MZ-N10 though. You can get
the MZ-N707 for less than $200, and it also has mic and line inputs.
Sharp has good recorders for live recording, and you can get those
from www.minidisco.com.

Besides the analog input issue, the MZ-N10 is arguably the nicest MD
recorder Sony has ever made, while the MZ-NE410 is the lowest end (and
cheapest) MD recorder they've ever made. The MZ-N10 has many "luxury"
features that the NE410 doesn't have. Things like a 6 band equalizer
(vs. simple bass boost), an LCD remote (versus no remote jack period),
magnesium body (vs. plastic body), nice big LCD (versus smallest LCD
on an MD unit I've ever seen), and more.

Thank you- this was a great help. I will go to minidisco.com. What exactly is
the analog input issue with the MZ-n10? And will the recording quality on the
N707 be similar to the N10?

The recording quality on the N707 should be pretty much identical to
the MZ-N10. By "analog input issue" I simply meant the fact the the
N10 has analog inputs and the NE410 doesn't. If you only want the
machine to do live recording of rehearsals, I can't say I recommend
the MZ-N10 any more than the MZ-N707, and because of the lower price,
I'd say go with the 707. If you really care about the other features
and accessories and are willing to pay nearly twice as much, then the
N10 is also a good choice.

Good Luck!

Perfect- thanks! Minidisco sight is great too. Any suggestions on external
mics? (for live recordings). Any thoughts on the Sharp MD-MT190W? Minidisco
seems to push the sharps more.

For live recording of MUSIC the Sharps are easier to use than most Sonys
and have better sounding mike preamps, too.

About the only reason to buy a Sony for live music recording is you want
NetMD, too (to date only one Sharp NetMD unit has come out) or you're in
the USA and need a US warrantied unit.

thanks- which sharps would you recommend? And are they easy to use with a MAC?

I have a Sharp 877 (no longer made) and a Mac. If I had to buy today I
would go for the MT190 probably.

If you're not going to use NetMD (not supported on Mac) than a Sharp is
as "easy to use" with a Mac as a Sony or any other brand. Not sure what
you wnat to know.
