Is there an affordable mic suitable for recording in SACD quality?
Thanks
Edmund
Lots of them. Try the Behringer B1 or B2-Pro

I have a pair of dual capsule, switchable pattern B2-Pros and they are
excellent and cheap at about $150 ea. (street).
Also, excellent, affordable mikes are available from SM Pro Audio.
I have a MC01 from SM. It's a single capsule, cardioid pattern only condenser
mike and it's really cheap ($89 each) and quiet, with wide frequency
response. Comes with a shock mount and a carrying pouch.
Or, Try Avantone. Their CK-1 comes with three capsules: extremely directional
Hyper-cardioid, Cardioid, and omni-directional. Avantone Mikes are well made,
inexpensive for what they are, and perform beautifully. They are quiet, have
wide, flat frequency response. Scroll down to the frequency response graphs
and look at the response of the omni-directional capsule on the CK-1 page! It
is extremely flat. This mike lists at $150 each and street price is more like
$100 ea., If you look around.
I have an Avantone CK-40 Stereo Mike and I love it! It has two mike heads on
one microphone body. It has switchable patterns for omni, cardioid, and
figure-of eight. One head rotates with relation to the other for true
coincident stereo, or, one mike head can be set to cardioid facing forward,
and the other to figure-of-eight and facing sideways for true M-S stereo! It
looks like the famous Telefunken ELA-M-270, but is quieter, has flatter
frequency response and is TRUE Omni-directional (when that pattern is
selected) unlike the aforementioned old Telefunken. The CK-40 is not real
cheap (at $600 list) but it is one great microphone.
Be advised that all of these mikes require 48-volt phantom power, so you'll
need a mixer with that capability.
BTW, Edmund, what are you using to encode DSD (SACD)?
