What are my options? Is it possible to order a key with the VIN#, or do i
have to replace my switch?

Hi Jim and Angie,
Sometime a good lock-smith can cut you new key.Seen it done.It took
awhile but he got it.
The guy, brought in his lock cylinder,he'd lost his key.Now it was a
motorcycle key switch,I'm sure ATV's are pretty close.

You used to be able to go back through the dealer to get a replacement.
Most of them don't stock the key blank any more. Ask them anyway. My
buddy lost his, and found a locksmith that could cut a new key for it,
but the key looked like a regular car key. Looked pretty funny sticking
up that high. You also might give Service Honda a call. They might be
able to get one. If you do have to replace the whole switch, I think
they're around $35 - $40. Good luck!

I've heard two differnent ways... one is to take your VIN number to the
dealer, they'll either give you a key code that a locksmith uses to cut a
new one, or they'll take your switch, take the numbers off the back of the
switch and give you a key code that way.... Not sure which will happen..

Unless it's too old to get a replacement or too new and expensive... a new
switch for a quad isn't too bad, but I learned my lesson on a CBR F1, didn't
have a key or tank lock, and a very expensive lesson it was... dealer price
$218.?? for tumbler, tank lock and 2 keys...

next time, I'll probably do the locksmith thing...

Amol Motors in Dumont, NJ ((201) 384-1103) can cut a Honda Key.

There should be a letter on the switch (under side) and that letter
coincides with a key.

They did if on a Rincon for me.

Definitely try the locksmith route first. But remember, there are good
locksmiths and not-so-good ones. I am a locksmith but don't do vehicles.
A knowledgeable locksmith should be able to cut you a key from code. Might
have to bring in the vehicle, maybe not. This points out the absolute
need to have a spare key or two around.
