Hey all,

I'm in the market to trade up my current 2002 Arctic Cat 400 4x4. I am
looking at the Yamaha Grizzly 660 model. I just would like to know what is
BAD about this quad. I'm sure there are many of you out there with some sort
of experience on this machine. Reason I just want to hear the bad is that
usually the good only comes from personal preference and not fact. Thanks.

Al

Hey Al!
I have about 80 miles on mine so far and the only complaint I have can be
easily fixed by adjusting the shocks. It feels tippy turning at high speeds
if you don't make this adjustment. That said, it makes it nice when your on
nery long straight trails like in Wolf Pen Gap (Mena, AR). If you mainly
ride this type of terrain, then leave it alone and you'll ride in comfort
for hours. It runs like a striped assed ape, is exremely smooth with lot's
of low end torque great braking. Having the biggest d!ck at the campsite
while discussing the days ride over a cold beer is also one of the many
excellent benefits of the Grizzly. While still breaking mine in, I have
begun to put it to the test and have not yet experienced the issue of the
heat from the pipe boiling the gas in the carb so far. That's the complaint
I hear about the most which you can wrap the correct section of the tailpipe
to fix it. I am keeping an eye out for it though. I STRONGLY suggest
riding the Grizz and the others before making your decision. That's when my
decision became perfectly clear. After doing this I have never second
guessed my decision. I paid $6,300 cash for mine so that's the $ to beat.
Good Luck!

I have 1200 miles on mine no problems.. upgraded from my98 polaris sportsman
500. Only gripe on my grizz is the side panel fit.. yamaha could have done
better as they do not line up or lock in as well as my old sportsman.. Motor
and ride quality it is way better than polaris..

1200mi. on my 02, very happy. never really had the boiling gas issue. re-did
the foot pegs myself for x-tra support with 1" channel ,very easy and solid
but the panels still fit shitty over time. 1" wider rims and better tires
really improve stability but hinder tight trail riding(overall width 49-1/2"
now).tons of power, rides like your on your couch, will go through just about
anything and make it look easy. I would have to buy another or it would be a
step backwards.

As a footnote to kenny b's post, the '03 floorboard has been reinforced from
the factory so that is no longer an issue.

Well, I have had my new griz for about a month now and I have to say, This
is one awesome machine. I crawled out of muddy creek banks that took others
riding with me a few tries and even had to winch some of them through. The
Dif lock is incredible. Hard to steer though while locked. I did have an
issue where the gas started to boil though and it was when I was doing a lot
of slow or no moving type of work around the house. Other than that this is
a sweet machine. I paid $6200 for mine here in Ohio.

What kind of wrap can be done to the pipe, since I have had this issue, I
would like to do it while the pipe is in new condition. Does anyone have
any details on this fix?

Skip the grizzly and get the Kawasaki 650. The Prairie has a lot more power
especially on the low end. I just got a brand new 2002 model for $5300!

Thanks.

I've heard alot of bad, but really:

- The foot pegs suck. I had mine fixed with the newer model pegs and they're
all messed up again.
- The tires suck. Don't expect to get more than a couple months out of them
if you ride regularily.
- The power is good, but not exceptionnal. It takes all it's spare change to
wheelie.
- It's an heavy machine, and it's top heavy. If you want to fully control
it, you need alot of weight. I consider anyone under 225 pounds to be too
small to ride the machine (anything smaller means the machine rides the
rider...)

Otherwise I'm real happy and woulnd't trade it for anything else I've
tried... I recommend it!

Alex.

Why do you think the Prairie '02 models are still available? Try to find an
'02 Grizzly. You won't. Think about it before you spend your money.

I agree, but the Grizzly felt top-heavy.
