I'm planning to buy a fwd atv. I have just had my 100 acres (woodland)
surveyed and had a dozer build a road around the line. I plan to use tha
atv for work and play. I've looked at the arctic cat 500 and was impressed
with it's looks and apparent build quality. I would like to have any input
you might have on this machine, or should I be looking at another brand?

I expect this question to spawn another round of "Buy Honda" answers, but
I myself am quite happy with my Polaris Sportsman 500.
BTW, Polaris now has a new extended warranty program that offers VERY
comprehensive coverage for up to 60 months!

I have an Arctic Cat 300 and am very pleased so far. I have rolled it
side-over-side and end-over-end with little or no damage to 4by, I not been
so lucky (broken ribs and what not). The Cat is a Utility bike and not
meant to compete with the sport and racing bikes, so don't to keep up with
them on open stretches. There are a few thing I would have them do
differently in the future: separate front and rear brake controls, make 500
model 2by and 4by, move engine forward abit on 300, and a few other things
that don't come to mind immediately. Overall the Arctic Cat handle well, my
300, I've not ridden the 500 model. By all means do shop around, as a
utility 4by may not be what you really want!

very nice(read: meaty and big) tires. They have reshaped the seat, too. The
only problems I have is the graphics absolutely suck

and all the magazines reports harp on it. It really does not belong. It does
have good power and the ride is good. Bear in mind it is made for utility
purposes. It does not like to go fast and jump stuff. But it is very happy
chugging along doing its thing. Build quality is good, but I don't think it
is in the same league as a Honda. Nothing is. Personally, I have two Suzuki
King Quads that I love. They ride like crap, but nothing will do what they
will when it comes to work. And I have seen them all. On the downside, Suzuki
pulled a huge boner this year and redesigned the bodywork on the KingQuads
and now have ruined their looks. If I were in the market for a 300 class, it
would be an Arctic Cat. Polaris shows me nothing. Too much breaky....
