Got past break in period and went for top speed.
I had a friend ride beside me with motorcycle.
It topped out at 70 mph so far bone stock.

No, the speedo on his buddies bike said that (bike speedos are usually
very off, worse the faster you go.). Probably more like 65 or so.
Still fast though!

Even more accurate is to mount a GPS onto the handlebars.

Make sure you clear out the top speed beforehand. Don't bother trying to
read the readout while you're moving, though. It'll be vibrating too
much. Wait until after the drag and see what the new top speed is.

I'm gonna mount a front Warn 2500 winch onto my z400, same as I did my
raptor. Amazing where it can take you, or get you out of. Also tames the
wheelie monster and puts the tires on the ground with less effort.

If Honda had came off their complacency kick and stuck a reverse on
their 400ex, my $6000 would have gone to them instead. Lead, follow, or
get out of the way.

The Icon would not doubt that the new Suzuki can pull 70 mph plus...... but
you are right about speedo's! The best way to check is either GPS or radar.

Fer sure.

While my Raptor can blow away quite a few quads in a drag race, my next
quad was almost going to be that cool red Honda with its' reputation for
quality and easy maintenance. What would it really have taken them to
introduce a new feature? I say that every sale of a z400 cannibalizes a
400ex sale they could have made.

I got a rear rack for my Rap but even after reinforcing, it bent again.
The raptor soaks up the whoops but anything on that rear rack takes a
mega-pounding. Unless it is tied on super tight with many straps, it's
all over the trail in back of me!

You got that right...many of my friends that own old 300 EX's want the 400
but don't want to give up the reverse gear. Don't understand why Honda
would do something as bone-headed as make a quad in today's market without a
reverse. You think Ford would make a truck without a reverse gear....Major
brain-fart!

Your reasoning is so logical it is scary. I am a new ATV buyer and I rulled
out all the Hondas for that very reason. 400ex - great handling, no
reverse, 300ex - good handling, pain in the ass reverse system, 250ex - no
clutch, too slow. Let's see now, Suzuki Z400 - same prices as 400ex,
handles as good as 400ex (according to all the magazines), more power,
reverse. The decision was a very simple one, I bought the 400Z. It Rocks,
no regrets. Honda has discounted the 400ex $300 as none are selling right
now because of the Suzuki.
