How often do you change the ATF in the 4x4 hubs on a Polaris ATV and how
much ATF do you put back in the hub after you drain it out.

you should change your hub oil everytime you ride in water and according
to the owners manual every 50 hours with the bike on level ground make
sure there is no dirt around the plug and rotate the wheel until it is
in the 12 oclock position remove the plug turn the wheel until it is in
the 4 oclock position if oil runs out then there is enough oil if no
oil runs out then rotate the wheel back to the 12oclock position and add
oil stopping every once in while to rotate the wheel to check the level
when you put the plug back in make sure it does not cross thread and
make sure itis tight i use a large needle that i got from my farm
supply to add oil i have found that its easier to use than poring from a
bottle jt 99 sportsman 500

Troy,
The Polaris owners manual doesn't state the front hub oil change
interval, but does say that the oil level should be such that it is even
with the filler plug hole when the wheel is rotated so that the filler
plug is located at the 4 o'clock or 8 o'clock position. I would suppose
that to achieve that level, you might want to overfill it somewhat and
turn it to that position so the excess can drain out.

polaris front hub oil is much thinner than atf so i would use polaris front
hub oil if your ride in cold weather.

The manual says to fill the front 4wd hub on Polaris to the level of 8
o'clock or 4 o'clock. I would suggest the best way might be to add oil
while the filler hole is on top (for convenience) and then rotate the
wheel so the open filler hole is at 4 o'clock or 8 o'clock and let the
excess drain out.

As far as changing it is concerned, it probably would practically never
need changing unless the seal leaks and lets water in...... and even if
this should happen, draining the oil is not going to get much of the
water out. But the shop manual does say to change it ..... I think it
suggests one time per year. Al Elston

Billet Aluminum Hub caps with sight glass to replace stock Polaris demand drive hub caps, no modifications to hubs needed.
You will still need to check your level and condition but now you can do it at a glance, before, during, or after your ride.
