Another example of how Kirk Mellish sucks: About a month ago, there
were some pretty serious tornadoes and storms moving through the
southeast, and as they moved into Georgia, WSB-TV suspended their
programming and went wall-to-wall with coverage, and they did a very
good job. David Chandley was on for a couple of hours (after working
the morning, afternoon and evening newscasts), and was relieved around
3AM by Karen Minton. Meanwhile over at WSB, Kirk Mellish was on tape
(as usual), talking of the "possibility of strong storms," while news
anchor Bob Pilante broke in with the tornado warnings other related
bulletins. The point is, WSB-AM could improve their accuracy simply
with the subtraction of Mellish and the addition of a feed from the
Channel 2 Weather Center. In fact, that is exactly what they used to
do when Russ Minshew worked at Channel 2 and concurrently did the
weather for WSB-AM (until he got in that bit of trouble in 1986).
And while I'm ranting, a tip of the hat to Glenn Burns, who, when he
misses a forecast, doesn't blow up a lot of smoke (like Mellish is now
with his "I'll never cause a panic" crap), but rather explains WHY he
missed it. A rare thing with meterologists.
Does anyone else get bored with this moron being hailed as some kind
of wonder when all I can wonder is how the hell he stays employed?
The weeks when David Chandley fills in for him are such a breath of
fresh air: No posturing, no "I told you so" or "The computer says X so
I'll say Y," and a more accurate forecast. Chandley's good.
