You may have come to the wrong place for advice. You might not
get what you are looking for. This NG can get pretty cynical at
times.

Congrats on your good fortune, and I hope you have a pleasant trip.

You'd do much better to post a request like this in a more general interest
NG that happens to have some Atlanta participants. alt.atlanta is lightly
trafficked place, dominated by a few cross-posting nutters (generally
white-supremacist/Third-Reich types) who often as not never set foot in the
city of Atlanta.

That said, start by surfing the local daily (www.ajc.com) and then google
some of the nightclubs, restaurants, and museums that sound interesting. I'm
sure you'll have plenty to do within a few subway stops (the subway's name
is "MARTA", and their website is http://www.itsmarta.com/ )

Or, you might find it's cheaper to stay at a hotel farther from the city
center and rent a car for your routes, but if you're not accustomed to
driving on the right, that could be a pretty steep learning curve for a
four-day stay.

My advice: stay away from a crap area called Buckhead--its dirty and yes
SLEAZY. Visit the countryside, which has much more pleasant people and sites
to see.

Now THAT is a good idea. Go out to the city of Madison and just
spend an afternoon strolling the streets in amazement at the
beautiful houses there. I don't know the full story, but
apparently there are houses there that pre-date the Civil War
because Sherman bypassed that town. There is also at least one
very nice restaurant there and life seemed pretty laid back the
list time I visited. If you can arrange it, visit the
Madison-Morgan Cultural Center - an old theater that has some
very distinct charm. Even better, attend a concert there if the
timing works out right.

Another nice, but touristy, place is Helen. It is a shop till you
drop type of place, but there are often street shows and the
restaurants are pretty nice.

There is a place in Underground Atlanta by the name of Cafe Du Monde that has
these delicious beignets - french donuts.
Also, there is a nice mall - Arbor Place - in Douglasville. Commerce is nice
if you like to outlet shop. There are a lot of parks in the Atlanta area - go
to Google and search for GA state parks. Stone Mountain Park is probably the
most famous.

Go to:
Stone Mountain (huge granite mountain with 1.4 mile walk-up trail and
surrounding lakes and golf)
Mall of Georgia (nice big-box retail area 30 minutes northeast of the city)
Chateau Elan (golf and winery resort, 15 minutes north of Mall of Georgia)
Kennesaw Mountain (see how Yankees helped ruin this country)
Governor's Mansion (along W. Paces Ferry Rd in a tony part of town)

Remember, there are quite a lot of dumb, violent negroes here in Apelanta (a
murder a day). Stay as far away from the stupid beasts as possible.

Get a hotel downtown or Midtown and bid through Priceline.com. You will be
centrally located to everything. Parking might be pricey downtown though at
the hotels.

You can get some steals if you keep working it.

Public transportation is a joke so plan on renting a car if you want to go
anywhere. Don't plan on driving between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
or 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. otherwise you will just sit in traffic. We have some of
the worst traffic in the nation.

If you are here for 4 days plan on going to the North Georgia Mountains for
1 day, explore downtown/midtown for a day. I hear the CNN tour is neat. I
also really liked the Atlanta History center. I could go on so I suggest
you order Frommers Atlanta guide book and go from there.

The weather should be sunny and in the 50's - 60's but can get as chilly as
the 20's.

Have fun.
