Hi,
I'm new to this area after having lived in Chicago, Portland and SLC,UT.
I've been a little disappointed with Atlanta so far but I'm here for a job.
Anyone else here for the same reason?

P.S. Money.com recently reviewed the best cities to live in the US and they
listed them here:
Portland, OR
Providence, RI
Chicago, IL
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC
Salt Lake City, UT
Sarasota, FL

What could Atlanta do to make the list?

You may want to take a look at Rand McNalley's Places Rated book that comes out
every few years.

No offense, but it could stop attracting so many newcomers. Atlanta made
such lists all the time in the early '90s, and the problems that have
bumped it off since then -- suburban sprawl, traffic, air pollution -- are
largely due to the city's rapid growth. The metro area has doubled in
population in about the last 10-15 years.

Better mass transit and more attractive places to live in town would
certainly help -- they're both in progress, but neither is a quick fix.

With the exception of Chicago, every city on that list is BORING.

Boring lasts about a month. Other factors come into play after that like:
1) Quality of schools
2) Affordable housing
3) Infrastructure
etc...
All the really boring adult stuff..

Sure, Moscow and Tel Aviv are fun but would you want to live there?

I can't comment on 1,3, but please let me tell you from the experience of
having lived in almost every big city >2 million people in the US that
Atlanta has extremely affordable housing compared to other big cities. Try
checking New York, Chicago, San Franscisco (where you can't buy anything for
less than $650,000), Boston, and heck, even Portland, Maine.

From the looks of it, reading about Atlanta on Internet sites, it seems like
a very happening place. Four sports teams, young demographics, great
nightlife, great restaurants, etc. If you're bored in Atlanta, try living
where I'm at now (Portland, Maine)!!

Well, there can't be too much arguing there concerning Affordable housing:

Atlanta's median house price is $126,800, ranking dead center. Portland's
is more at $146,800. Must be all the Colonials up there.. San Fran, New
York are out of the question anyway although entertainment is unequaled.
Chicago's is roughly the same as Portland's (figure that..)

But cheer up Eric:
Portland spends 20% more per student than Atlanta (doesn't even make
national average). Also, Portland is one of the top 10 cities in America
when it comes to job growth. Plus, you're really close to Canada so I'm
envious..

Best,
SL

I believe the original intent of the message was not to say that Atlanta was
boring. Atlanta is not boring but then again, what big city is boring?

It'll get worse. Just wait

> What could Atlanta do to make the list?

1. Build more parks
2. Enact legislation to curb suburban sprawl
3. Build more/better public transportation and create financial
incentives to make it worthwhile to 5-car suburban families
4. Make better attempts to save the few bits of history still existing
(and not just dumbfuck CSA history. Blacks have history too.)
5. Evict Holger and send his cracker, racist ass to Alabama.

My sympathies for you having to live there. My advice is to look for a
job either up North or in the West. It won't get any better for you.
Believe me.

Never been there, have you?

Four sports teams,
Oh yeah, watching the Braves choke every year is a real thrill for the
city's fans..none of whom turned out for the team until they
started "winning"

great
> nightlife,
Yeah, if you like TGI Fridays...

>great restaurants,
LOL!

etc. If you're bored in Atlanta,

Bored in Atlanta is redundant.
