Does anyone know what happened to the Qdoba on Roswell Road in Sand Springs?
I looked on Qdoba's website a week or two ago and it said there was on in
that area. But when I drove to it the other day it seems to have closed. I
looked on Qdoba's website again and it's no longer listed there. Weird.

I also did a search for Baja Fresh in the Atlanta area and two turn up, but
when I look on the company's website they are not listed.

I used to go to the Qdoba near State's Bridge and 141. Not bad for quick
burritos. You may want to check out Burrito Art. I know there's one next to
Emory and maybe still one near Howell Mill and Collier. Another good option
is Taqueria del Sol. They have one location near Howell Mill and another
just out from downtown Decatur. If you want to explore authentic Mex, there
are lots of places around Buford Highway. No visa required in most
cases. ;-) I used to go to Taqueria los Rayos near the back side of PDK in
Chamblee. Their stuff is cheap and great. You may feel like the lonely
gringo if you walk in the place, though.

Atlanta did not respond to the very mediocre Cali-Mex offered by Baja Fresh.
The Northpoint location is an equally unimpressive Mediterranean place.
That is if they have not already gone out of business

That's interesting. The first time I had Baja Fresh was in Kansas City. I
thought it was great, so when I went to Miami I decided to try it again. I
was very underwhelmed.

You know what the Atlanta area needs? A good restaurant that
serves authentic northern food. I doubt that there are any
in this area at all. They'd probably do pretty good business
considering all of the transplanted northerners.

Oh yeah, I'll bet people would just flock to a place that served authentic
Scrapple (gag!) or genuine Cincinatti chili (double gag!). What's funny is
that Southern style barbecue places are all the rage in Manhattan now. But
as far as I can tell, there is no discernible Northern style of cooking.
It's just a hodgepodge. The best restaurants in the Northern towns I went
to were usually something ethnic, Italian or German or whatever. There is a
certain distinct cuisine built around seafood in Boston and Maine. Other
than that, I'm hard pressed to remember anything special about Northern
food.

Authentic "northern food"? Philly, NY, Chicago, Wisconsin, Boston,
Baltimore et all all have different cuisines. Are you looking for an
Italian beef, cheesesteak, Chesapeake crab, patrami on rye, pork roll...you
seemed to put quite a few cuisines together with one brush stroke.

Those are all ethnic foods. I'll refer you to the list I
posted earlier. Good solid American food - although perhaps
slightly prejudiced towards German tastes. Heck I barely
knew that there were people who weren't of German extraction
until I started high school.

Etnic foods? Yeah as in American.

Cheesesteak: invented in south Philly
Italian beef: Invented in Chicago
Maryland style crabcakes: believe it or not Maryland
Pork roll: Central Jersey
Pastrami and rye: I believe Reuben's Deli inventor of their namesake
sandwich

Ethnic, as in American.

Well, if you are going to get fussy then we need to add
Hamburger, Mushrooms and Noodles to that list. It was my
mother's invention, right in Turbotville, Pennsylvania.

I never learned until well into my adulthood that it was
merely a poor man's version of Beef Stroganoff. We couldn't
afford the more expensive cuts of beef that normally go into
that disk, but mom did pretty well with the substitute and
we never questioned it being set before us. It was probably
the only universal family favorite considering five kids and
three adults.

I'm sure if I were to open a Turbotville style eatery. However I doubt if
it has the following of a reuben, cheesesteak, Italian beef, Buffalo wings,
Chesapeake crab, Chicago hot dog, bratwurst, scrapple, Lebanon bologna, pork
roll, et al, but it proves my point that "northern food" ain't under one
umbrella.

Which is good, I suppose. I prefer to eat inside a

There is a good place up on Roswell Road, next door to the Ouick Trip
and Spring Creek apartments. It used to be a mexican place, and was
closed for several months until this joint opened. They seem to be doing
well-they are still open after about 1 1/2 years of business.
