OT: Mobile camera phone help - imaging

phone to my computer. I can import the phone book from my phone, but for some
reason, there seems to be no way whatsoever for me to import the pictures I've
taken. I can't find anything about it on the net, and I'll be _damned_ if I'm
going to pay this much for a phone & cable accessory just for the camera feature
and then be forced to sign up for an additional clarge just to be able to get
the frikkin' images to my computer when it -should- be a simple matter of having
a bit of software utilize the USB connection to the phone to import my pics.
Is there some way I can accomplish this without signing up for any extra
services? I can send text messages, but I apparently am not on the kind of plan
that will permit me to e-mail photos from my phone, and really don't feel like
paying for the "privelege" since I already bought the phone when it should be a
simple matter of point-and-click. Help? :-?

It *should be a simple matter but it's not. The phone companies have no
incentive to standardize anything nor to provide information on the
internals of the phones. If they did, people would just write their own
software and the phone companies couldn't charge every time you pushed a
button.
That said, find the model number for your phone (it may even be under the
battery and you'll have to pull the battery out). Then go here:

If Bitpim supports the phone, it's free for the download. You may have to
get a USB to serial converter for the data cable and attach to the serial
port (I don't think Bitpim does USB, at least not now).
Do pay attention to the instructions and warnings. Bitpim has an option to
let you into the memory of the phone but the phone companies don't
document what's in there. Don't muck about with anything you don't
understand, you could disable the phone. Trying to explain that to the
phone company when you go to try to get it reprogrammed could be, well,
interesting. <g>
But if you're just doing the picture transfers and contact lists and such,
it's all GUI and "point-and-click" and if Bitpim supports your phone,
it'll be pretty easy. I've used it with my phone without any trouble.

Ah-HAH! That's -just- the ticket that did it for me! :-) It actually did work
on a USB port. It was a -little- tricky, though - my pictures didn't show up
immediately in the browser under "Images" - I had to import them as wallpaper.
But hey, whatever works, it got the job done. Thanks a lot! :-)

You can also use BitPim to upload pics/MP3s to you phone for
backgrounds and ringers.
