SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Good Book is being treated like a
bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to
ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district
that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for
younger children.

And the Book of Mormon could be next.

. . .

Utah ? Nope - Mormon will be exempt.

Anyway, I suppose fair is fair ... books full
of weirdo sex & violence stuff and exotic
ideologies ... ban one then ban ALL from the
public schools.

IMHO, public schools should be mostly oriented

Some years ago, scientific research revealed that
the human mind processes information in a manner
that was not consistent with Buddhist doctrine.
After some review, the Dali Lama said that the
research was credible and doctrine would have to
be adjusted accordingly.

How often do you hear THAT from the other more
'mainstream' religions ? :-)

MANY years ago I got annoyed with the resurgent
'creationists' and wrote a short letter to the
editor in a local newspaper saying that despite
claims of a Vast Global Scientific Konspiracy
things just weren't like they preferred to believe -
and they needed to adjust their theology a little
to fit the discovered facts. Nothing accusing or
condescending or insulting - Just The Facts.

This didn't get much traction, except from a few
claiming 'blasphemy'. However I did get a personal
letter from a relative - kinda in biological sciences -
who normally didn't communicate or affirm much and
was indeed a bit hostile, basically saying "Good Job !".
Unexpected. This was far more valuable to me than
anything the indignant creationists had to say.

Christianity has systematically been 'adjusting' it's teaching to comply
with ever changing societal norms, acceptance of gays and women priests
being just two examples, which makes a mockery of claiming the bible is
the absolute word of God of course.

Yep. As long as the pedophile clergy and conservative politicians are
protected because rightwingers always stick together.

They probably think they're protecting their supply of children to abuse
by turning against trannys and gays.

The clergy sex abuse scandal has focused attention on the widespread and
systemic sexual abuse of children by priests.

But child sexual abuse is not just a Catholic problem.

The Catholic Church - with scandals out of the Boston and Philadelphia
archdioceses, to name just two - has been at the center of child sexual
abuse, but in recent years a number of horrific cases of child sex abuse
has served to focus attention that it is a non-discriminating scourge.

Studies show that one in 10 children are sexually abused before their 18th
birthday. It ranks the second most costly victim crime - second only to
murder.

Predatory priests

The arrest last week of Father David Poulson, of the Diocese of Erie, once
again focused attention on pedophilia in the Catholic Church.

More than 10,000 Catholic priests have been credibly accused of child
molestation and rape - an average of 228 cases per year since the 1950s.

But the Catholic Church, in fact, is not an outlier.

Abuse across Protestant churches

Child sex abuse happens across Protestant and evangelical churches - and,
at times, at a higher rate.

An investigation by The Associated Press recently found three insurance
companies in the United States that provide liability coverage for 165,000
Protestant churches typically receive 260 reports every year of children
being sexually abused by Protestant clergy or other staff.

In 2013, Boz Tchividjian, a Liberty University law professor, said the
Christian mission field is a "magnet" for sexual abusers.

Tchividjian, a grandson of the late evangelist the Rev. Billy Graham,
excoriated evangelicals for turning a blind eye to abuse among their
ranks.

The Presbyterian Church

In recent years, the Presbyterian Church, one of the most progressive
mainline denominations, has been rocked by child sexual abuse cases. The
majority of cases involved the children of missionaries serving overseas
from the 1950s to 1990.

In the wake of mounting allegations, the church commissioned an
independent panel to investigate the reports. The panel found that at
least nine individuals, including ministers ordained with the
denomination, had abused children.

A similar investigation in 2002 found "overwhelming" evidence that at
least 22 girls and women had been sexually abused by a Presbyterian
minister and missionary over a 40-year period.

The abuse took place in Africa and the United States.

Matt York/AP

Southern Baptists

A survey by the Journal of Pastoral Care in 1993 found that 14 percent of
Southern Baptist ministers said they had engaged in "inappropriate sexual
behavior."

By 2000, a report to the Baptist General Convention found the incidence of
sexual abuse by clergy had reached "horrific proportions." Victims
advocates have derided church leadership for protecting predators and
covering up crimes.

In 2016 the Southern Baptist Convention elected Steve Gaines as its
president. A few years earlier, Gaines, at the time head of a Memphis,
Tennessee, church was implicated in clergy child molestation case.
Investigators said Gaines knew for years that one of his ministers had
sexually molested a child. Gaines neither reported the crime to police or
his congregation, police said.

Jehovah's Witnesses

Leaked internal documents this year catapulted the Jehovah's Witnesses
church unto the child sex crimes roster.

The insular church discouraged victims of sexual abuse from reporting the
abuse, the documents showed.

The leaked documents exposed sexual abuse accusations from three accusers
against a member of the church. The documents outline the efforts by the
church to cover up the scandal and keep it from the "worldly court of
law."

Since the news broke, hundreds of church members have come forward with
their own accounts of abuse. Attorneys believe there are thousands of
victims involved.

Predators: not so much pastors but volunteers

The majority of accused predators in faith settings are not clergy or
staff but church volunteers.

That is according to the Christian Ministry Resources, which serves more
than 75,000 congregations and 1,000 denominational agencies nationwide.

Annual surveys from the organization suggest that in recent years, the
pace of child-abuse allegations against American churches has averaged 70
a week.

Ultra-orthodox Jews

The New York community of ultra-Orthodox Jews has faced a backlash for
asking observant Jews to consult a rabbi instead of going immediately to
police with evidence of child sexual abuse.

Similar cases have sprung in other cities, including Baltimore and Miami,
involving allegations of sexual misconduct by orthodox Jewish leaders.

The case involving Rabbi Shmuel Krawatsky, formerly of the Beth Tfiloh
Dahan Community School in Baltimore, involves the alleged abuse of at
least three boys at a summer camp.

According to a report by The Jewish Week, the rabbi, who was naked and
alone in a pool changing room with two alleged victims, touched the boys
inappropriately before asking them to touch his "private parts" in
exchange for $100."

The report also states that the rabbi threatened the young boys not to
tell their parents.

Given the faith's shroud of secrecy there is no hard data regarding the
number of potential abuse victims in the Orthodox Jewish community.
Experts estimate that there could be thousands of victims dating back
decades.

The principle of mesirah forbids reporting a Jewish practitioner to
secular authorities. Issues are supposed to be handled internally within
the greater faith community.

Dennis Hastert

In 2016, Dennis Hastert, the longest-serving Republican Speaker of the
House in U.S. history, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for
structuring payouts in order to cover up the sexual abuses he perpetrated
as a wrestling coach in Illinois decades ago.

"The thing I want to do is say I'm sorry to those I've hurt and misled.
They looked at me and I took advantage of them," Hastert told a judge.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin called Hastert "a serial child
molester."

Hastert was released last year from a federal prison in Minnesota after
serving nearly 13 months.

The former Republican powerhouse was ordered to serve two years of court-
ordered supervised release .

Jerry Sandusky

Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky is serving up to 60 years
in prison for sexually abusing 10 boys between 1994 and 2009.

Sandusky targeted his victims from among the boys who attended his Second
Mile camp, a charity that he ran for at-risk youth. He was convicted of 45
of 48 counts of child sexual abuse against young boys from the charity

Banned swimming coaches

Approximately 150 youth swimming coaches have been banned for life as a
result of credible child sex crimes allegations against them.

In 2010, Andy King, a coach with a California aquatics club, was charged
with 20 counts of lewd acts with girls 15 and younger. He was sentenced to
40 years in prison for molesting girls training with the San Jose Aquatics
Club. King was alleged to have impregnated one of his victims when she was
14.

In 2008, Central Indiana Aquatics coach Brian Hindson was accused of
setting up hidden cameras in locker rooms. He pleaded guilty to charges
including distribution, production and possession of child pornography and
was sentenced to 33 years in prison.

A coach who failed to step up

Chuch Wielgus, who served as executive director of USA Swimming for nearly
20 years, came under fire for his handling of sex abuse cases.

In 2014, more than four years after rebuking culpability, Wielgus
apologized to victims and acknowledged that he should have done more to
protect athletes.

He wrote in a blog post: "I wish my eyes had been more open to the
individual stories of the horrors of sexual abuse. I wish I had known more
so perhaps I could have done more."

Wielgus died in 2017.

Millions of children abused by teachers

Schools are supposed to be a safe environment for children, but they can
actually be one of the most dangerous places for children with regards to
sexual abuse.

A study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education found that up to
7 percent of all middle and high school students were the targets of
physical sexual abuse by teachers, coaches and other adults working in the
school system.

That statistic puts the number of young teens sexually abused by teachers
and other school adults in the millions.

A 2015 report found that just under 500 educators were arrested in
connection to child sex crimes:

3.5 million students (grades 8th-11th) reported having had physical
sexual contact from an adult (most often a teacher or coach).
4.5 million children reported being shown pornography or being
subjected to sexually explicit language or exhibitionism.

According to a report by The Washington Post, 35 percent of educators
convicted or accused of sexual misconduct with children had used social
media to gain access to their victims.

Young children have long been taught about "stranger danger," but, in
fact, most perpetrators are individuals close to a child, including a day
care worker or volunteer. According to federal health authorities,
pedophiles and child molesters, in general:

tend to be male
can be heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual
range in age from teens to midlife
are usually a relative, friend, or neighbor of the child
carry the abuse out in the home of the victim
often claim that they themselves were victims of childhood sexual
abuse.

The majority of victims are girls. When boys are victims, the sexual abuse
tends to take place outside the home, and the perpetrator may be a
stranger.

Let us ignore the adjustment that Jesus hated gays and abortion
when he never mentionned either? Jesus had women among his
follower. He told Martha to let Mary talk to him. The apostle to
the apostles was a woman, Mary Magdalene.

They deserve to be mocked for such an obvious blasphemy. Since

Certainly NOT ! :-)

Anyhow, I'd like the schools to veer well away from
'indoctrination' of any kind and focus much more
sharply on the 3-Rs.

And yes, I'm old enough to remember the OTHER indoc
program ... the Cold War Ensemble of 'truths' and
'facts' and 'right-thinking'. The Commies WERE pretty
bad, but that didn't justify SO much spin delivered
to the kiddies.

Abortion wasn't an option back then.
The Bible clearly mentions men sleeping with men as a woman.
It is true Jesus surrounded himself with thieves, prostitutes and so forth.
That should be a lesson to all believers.

You have the old testament and the new testament.
The old testament was prior to God's son Jesus arriving and consists of sacrifices, and many other
barbaric acts in the context of the beginning of mankind.

When God's son, Jesus was born the old testament was negated and the only way to salvation was not
through works but through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Christians believe this.
Jews are still waiting for the messiah.
Who is correct?
Nobody knows for sure.

As for "God", the ark, the symbolism in Daniel and revelation I don't believe that to be literal.
Imagine a person in Ezekiel's time seeing a spacecraft. All they knew was chariots so they would
equate whatever they saw to chariots.

As for events like the flood, there is plenty of scientific evidence to substantiate the Bible.
<https://answersingenesis.org/the-flood/global/evidences-genesis-flood/>

As for creation, think about where did the first one come from?
Even if microbes crawled out of the swamp and mated with each other, where did the first microbe
come from?
Even modern physics laws claim matter cannot be created nor destroyed.

And then there is the ecosystem, the planets and so forth. If a single planet should go off from
it's orbit the earth as we know it might be changed forever.
Same with the ecosystem. The bird eats the worm, the worm pulverizes the soil etc.
It's quite delicate.

Do you believe all of this order just happened?

I don't.

Do I believe in the ark, the apple in the garden of Eden and so forth?
Of course not.
However I do believe that some supreme being created this solar system.
There is no way it just happened.

And BTW the world is acting just like Revelation.
We are definitely living in the end times.
It's mimicking the Roman Empire, at least in terms of decadence.
Only worse.

I suggest people wake up.

Full List of Texas Pastors Charged With Abusing Children This Year
By Giulia Carbonaro On 12/9/22 at 9:51 AM EST

This year, at least 10 Texas pastors, former pastors and youth ministers
were arrested, charged or convicted for various allegations of sexual
abuse of children.

In November, 56-year-old David Lloyd Walther, a pastor for the Faith
Baptist Church in Round Rock, was arrested for the distribution, receipt,
transportation and possession of child pornography, as reported by the
Austin American-Statesman. Walther, who told the FBI that he had a
pornography addiction, faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

In the same month, a 31-year-old former student minister at the Champion
Forest Baptist Church in Harris County was sentenced to five years in
prison after pleading guilty to online sexual abuse of a child. Timothy
Jason Jeltema pleaded guilty on November 17 to four charges of online
sexual abuse of a minor—including one charge of indecency with a child—one
charge of sexual performance by a child and two counts of online
solicitation of a minor which were initially brought against him in 2018,
according to the Baptist Press.

In July, 48-year-old Chad Michael Rider, of Anna, was convicted in the
Eastern District of Texas for assisting former Denison pastor David
Pettigrew produce child pornography. According to documents and testimony
at the trial, Rider helped Pettigrew convince minors into taking sexually
explicit photographs. He was found guilty of three counts of the sexual
exploitation of children.

In the same month, pastor William C. Robinson, who at the time was working
for Chi Alpha Campus Ministries in Corpus Christi, was charged with
continuous sexual abuse of a child, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Also in July, Brian Pounds, a 45-year-old minister at First Assembly of
God in Vernon, North Texas, was charged with sexual assault of a child and
delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, according to Vernon police.
Pounds denied having had sexual contact with the child, but the girl
testified to the many times the minister had performed sex acts with her
and given her meth.

Baytown pastor Lawrence Hopkins was arrested in late June with the charge
of soliciting a minor online, according to Montgomery District Attorney's
Office. The arrest of the 55-year-old associate pastor at Rollingbrook
Fellowship in Baytown was part of a multi-agency operation to capture
individuals who have been "actively seeking to sexually exploit children
via the internet in Montgomery County," authorities said.

Following the pastor's arrest, Rollingbrook Church sent a statement
acknowledging the case and declaring that Hopkins' employment at the
church had been "immediately terminated." The church thanked the
Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for "their efforts to protect our
children and pursue those who would seek to harm them" and announced they
were "cooperating fully with the authorities."

In April, the Nashville-based Southern Baptist news service Baptist Press
reported that youth pastor Conner Jesse Penny, 32, had been arrested on
three counts of sexual abuse related to a minor. According to the police
report, Penny, who was employed at the Inspiration Church, formerly known
as Mimosa Lane Baptist Church, in Mesquite at the time of the arrest, "had
sexual contact with a female under the age of 17 years of age on multiple
occasions between 2015 and 2018."

In March, pastor's son and Conroe church worship leader Jonathan Ryan
Ensey, 37, was found guilty of victimizing a congregant by committing
indecency with a child and online solicitation of a minor. He is serving
eight years in prison, as both sentences were served concurrently.

In January, Aaron Duane Shipman, the 44-year-old lead pastor at Bible
Baptist Church in Odessa, was charged with assaulting a teenage girl for
years, beginning when she was 16. The woman, who's currently 18, reported
the case to the Odessa Police Department. The church, upon hearing about
the arrest, issued a statement declaring that Shipman's contract had been
terminated.

In the same month, 61-year-old Houston-area pastor Conrad Estrada Valdez
was charged of sexual assault of a child between the ages of 14 and 17, as
reported by ABC. The case was brought forward in 2019 by a then-30-year-
old woman who said she was sexually assaulted by Valdez when she was 15.

The cases reported so far are limited to the charges brought forward this
year, and to the state of Texas. By expanding the search further back in
time or beyond Texas' borders, the list would grow much longer than the
one compiled in this article.

In October, the North Texas megachurch Denton Bible Church released a 2019
investigation revealing that a former youth pastor sexually abused 14
girls at two different churches. The pastor, Rob Shiflet, was sentenced in
2021 to 33 months in federal prison for sexually assaulting two girls on
church youth trips, and is now registered as a sex offender.

On December 1, a former youth pastor at a Southern Baptist church in
Missouri was charged with six child abuse-related charges.

In May, a document released by the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)
revealed the case of more than 700 Baptist leaders—including pastors,
teachers, ministers and volunteers—accused or found guilty of sexual abuse
of children.

The 205-page document, which looks at cases dating back to a period
between 2000 and 2009, details the arrests and—sometimes—sentencing of
Baptist leaders found guilty of sexual assaults, soliciting children,
child pornography and more.

According to SBC, the list is the result of an internal investigation by
Guidepost Solutions aimed at uncovering the cover-ups of cases of sexual
assaults which were allegedly kept quiet by the church's higher-ups.

"This list is being made public for the first time as an initial, but
important, step towards addressing the scourge of sexual abuse and
implementing reform in the Convention," a statement by SBC read. "Each
entry in this list reminds us of the devastation and destruction brought
about by sexual abuse. Our prayer is that the survivors of these heinous
acts find hope and healing, and that churches will utilize this list
proactively to protect and care for the most vulnerable among us."

But the lack of a rigid structure within the SBC, which doesn't have an
established hierarchy, might make bringing the necessary change to the
church difficult.

Romans 3:28 For we hold that one
is justified by faith apart from
works of the law.

James 2:24 You see that a person
is justified by works and not by
faith alone.

If they are not literally true
they are literally false. Which
nullifies the whole reason to
trust the Bible at all.

DO YOU KNOW THE BIBLE BELONG TO THE JEWS, RIGHT?

Look, miscreant, read this and weep:

Paul’s Anguish Over Israel rejection of the MESSIAH(CHRIST)
9 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—
2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ(Messiah) for the sake of my people,
those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel.
Theirs is the adoption ; theirs the divine glory, to Israel belong the covenants,
the receiving of the law at Sinai Mountain, the temple worship and the promises.
5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of
the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised![a] Amen.

It was by induced miscarriage. The bible mentions the procedure.

Jesus doesn't.

Love each other as I have loved you.

In Acts there is dispute between James and Paul resolved by Peter
whether gentile christians have to be circumcised and obey Mosaic
Law. The decision was no. The only part of the Torah's legal codes
that applies to gentiles is the Law of Noah. The rest of the
Tanakh can be instructive but not restrictive.

> Jews are still waiting for the messiah.

I leave it to each person to look within and decide for themselves
what is holy.

> As for events like the flood, there is plenty of scientific evidence to substantiate the Bible.

We have an internally consistent body of evidence that world has
been alive for two to three billion years. A literal
interpretation is maybe ten thousand years. It is possible that
evidence is false, that the earth is young created to look old.
Why do that? Because it's test whether we believe our eyes or the
bible? If we are divinely created, our eyes, our minds, our
ability to investigate are divine. So what kind of god would make
us able to see the world as it appears to be but then punish us
for using that divine gift? A trickster god.

Actually it does allow it. It depends on the energy involved, but
physics depends on it. Some things like spectroscope line details
require assuming energy can briefly flit in and out of existence.

No, but I have no better explanation. So I will assume random
chance can do all this in lieu of a more workable hypothesis. If

He did not have to mention gays. He is the Messiah(Christ) supposed
to confirm that the Morality derived from Moses's Law was not handed down by any human being
therefore not arbitrary.
American claims freedom from that Moral Law. WAIT UNTIL AMERICA PAYS A HEAVY PRICE
