I'm not big fan of Eastern philosophy. Maybe Lao Tzu and
Taoism, but the rest of it is *meh.* Classical Buddhism
doesn't require belief in a ghod, but many practitioners have
folded folk religion with theistic elements into the mix, even
treating Gautama as if he were a deity.

It has nothing to do with 'hiding' as you erroneously characterize it, it is a limitation upon the govt with their finger pointing / accusational ability, once a certain amount of time goes by, if you haven't brought a case, you can't.
