At least the ones that do this:

The churches may be able to get away with what the bishop said.
The Revenue Code prohibits campaigning "regarding the candidate".
Since the Bishop did not mention any candidate by name, what he said
MAY pass the restriction.

I'm not giving a definite interpretation of the law. That is for the courts
to decide.

Note the language:

In exchange for the receipt of tax-exempt status, I.R.C. § 501(c)(3) absolutely prohibits churches and other tax-exempt organizations from campaigning

"for or against a candidate for public office."

If a church participates or interferes, directly or indirectly, in any political campaign

"for or against any candidate for public office by publishing and distributing certain written material or making oral statements regarding the candidate,"

Obama was not mentioned by name or by his office.

I'm not seeing any great reduction in your posting frequency. Or is your
newfound little buddy Calvin going to pop-up, jack in the box like, and point
out that you meant "in the future" at some unspecified point in time?

"I don't know what you mean by 'glory,'???" Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't - till I tell you.
I meant 'there's a nice knock-down argument for you!'???"
"But 'glory' doesn't mean 'a nice knock-down argument'," Alice objected.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone,
"it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many
different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master that's all."

Well, I don't really know. I have not kept any statistics on my posting frequency. Have you?You might be right, but we'll need precise data to determine that.

Why don't you start keeping that data?

Well, I suppose I could write a script to parse the XOVER news headers from
alt.atheism on news.eternal-september.org, and count posts/day "pre
announcement" vs. posts/day "post announcement", but that seems like work...

Nah, I don't really care how much you post. I just want to point out your
attention-whoring behaviour of shouting like a petulant child "You won't have
Joe Bruno to kick around anymore!", and then proceeding to hang around and get
kicked some more.

Joe, we all know you're a troll, and without an audience, you're nothing.
You'll never leave.

Ever.

Now that is baloney. I didn't say anything of the sort to you or anyone else.
I confided to Calvin that I was sick of all the lying and stupidity here.
and that I would be here less.

You are a liar. But then, I already knew that and said it before.

The time has come for you to get killfiled.

How inane.

The idiot who wrote this bit about "may be able to get away with what
the bishop said" is an idiot.

Of course a court may find that I was not really talking about Bruno
since I never mentioned his name.

"Confided"?
And to someone who believes god made you write all that tripe?

What the heck IS it with you people?! Is satire and/or hyperbole beyond your
capability?

> I confided to Calvin that I was sick of all the lying and stupidity here.

How does one "confide" in a public forum?

confide:
vb
1. to disclose (secret or personal matters) in confidence (to); reveal in private (to)
2. (intr; foll by in) to have complete trust
3. (tr) to entrust into another's keeping

You *announced* that you were going to be here less. I haven't seen any
apparent drop-off in your postings. No "several day wait" for responses from
you.

What's the point of making the announcement, other than attention-getting?

> You are a liar. But then, I already knew that and said it before.

Says the guy who told us unambigously he practiced law, then, announced he had
never said he practiced law, then when caught out in his lie, announced that it
was an "error in terminology". "Practiced law" doesn't mean "practiced law"
when you don't want it to. "Around less" doesn't mean "around less" when you don't
want it to. You live in some wierd-ass world where words don't actually mean
anything, other than the current spin you want to give to them.

> The time has come for you to get killfiled.

Your newsreader, pal, you do what you gotta do. I gotta do what I gotta do,
and I'll keep pointing out what an idiot you are. It's my ouvre.
