The only true resistance is to call your neighbors and religious
acquaintances on it. Whenever they say or do something inanely stupid,
ask them for an explanation. If a visiting neighbor child asks at the
dinner table "well aren't we going to say grace"?, just call his
little ass on it. "... no, sorry, but we don't say grace here because
we believe that it corrupts young impressionable little minds like
yours. You really believe all that shit?".
From Dawkins' The God Delusion pg, 347:
"Faith is an evil precisely because it requires no justification and
brooks no argument. Teaching children that unquestioned faith is a
virtue primes them to grow up potentially lethal weapons for future
jihads and crusades.....
... If children were taught to question and think through their
beliefs, instead of being taught the superior virtue of of faith
without question, it is a good bet that there would be no suicide
bombers. Suicide bobmbers do what they do because they really believe
what they were taught in religeous schools; that duty to god exceeds
all priorities, and that martyrdom in his service will be rewarded in
the Gardens of Paradise. And they were taught that lesson not
necessarily by extremist fanatics, but by gentle. mainstream religeous
instructors, who lined them all up in their madrasas, sitting in rows,
rhythmically nodding their innocent little heads up and down while
they learned every word of the holy book like demented parrots".
This is very fucking sad.... the first sentence says it all. Belief
requires not one element of empirical data to back it's hideous
assertions. It is an "untouchable" in this country, and many others,
and we stand idly by and allow it to procreate and multiply like some
runaway virus.
You can cut off the head, but a new one just grows back in its place.
Starve the meme by attacking it at the base level... show these poor,
unwitting child-minds that it's OK to question what they've been told.
And "fat fucking jesus on a bike", show them once and for all that,
despite our proclivity for cursing, and promoting sam-sex marriage and
all, the moral code we adhere to is more relevant than the silliness
they're subjected to every Sunday morning (to say nothing of what
transpires over the dinner table).
One sponge at a time.....
