"Chernobyl" is Ukranian for "wormwood." This is a Biblical prophesy that
undoubtedly came true. Explain this one, athiests.

Well, since you are a fundamentalist you believe the bible is
literally true.

So as a Christian the FIRST thing you need to do is stop bearing false
witness. You didn't quote the entire passage:

"And a great star burning as a lamp fell from heaven and it fell upon
a third of the rivers and upon the fountains of waters."

So, did "Chernobyl" "fall from heaven" as a great burning "star"? I
don't think so. It was more like a building sitting there full of
radiation. And even though the radiation poisoning (wormwood) was
serious and fairly widespread, did it pollute a third of the rivers of
the Earth? No. This means that your statement that the prophesy
"undoubtedly came true" is a lie.

The REAL prophesy is quite clear I think. There will be a METEORITE
that will fall to earth in flames (as they usually do) and it will be
filled with noxious crap that will spew all over the side of the earth
in the impact area polluting all the fresh water on that side of the
planet. (namely about 1/3 of the rivers, lakes etc.) The meteorite
will be large enough to be given a name (like comets are) and it's
name will be "wormwood" in some language.

So quite obviously this biblical prophesy has yet to come true. We can
all wait for it together. You should pay attention to the fact that
the bible says that not even God knows the exact time. How could "he"
given that man has freewill? Hence the exact timing depends on what WE
do in the meantime!

You can't hold him to that standard unless you also are a fundamentalist
who believes the bible is literally true.

Since I'm making a point for HIM, why can't I hold him to his own
standards? Of course by MY standards (which would be that the bible
contains SOME historical indications and is not to be interpreted
literally, the conclusion would be different and he actually would be
saying something true. For example freed from the "literal"
restrictions I would argue that flames of the "burning lamp" might be
radiation and the "star" might actually imply the nuclear reactor
(nuclear reactions run stars). And that 1/3 might actually be merely a
LOCAL contamination rather than the literal interpretation of the
entire earth.

So from my viewpoint his statement that this prophesy came true would
be one I might agree with, rather than the lie it appears to be from
his OWN viewpoint. I see no reason to hold him to my standards. He
needs to address his belief from his own standards.

Shall we list how many ways "waters" can be made "bitter"? Bible prophesy
is like cold reading. It's so vague that nearly everyone has a story that
fits it.

If you don't, you're making it say what it doesn't say, IOW, you're making
up your own religion. Why do you think Christians of different flavor are
always at arms with each other?

For one, it simply will not work; it only has an effect if someone whom
he shares his belief set with says it to him. For two, doing such a
thing puts you in an indefensible position. It is incoherent to deny
that his stance is valid then demand he justify himself from with the
very framework you deny is valid.

You just said from your viewpoint, his viewpoint produces a lie. Then
you witlessly demand he address what you believe is a lie from within
the very same framework you claim is creating the lie. It necessarily
follows then that no matter what he says you will see nothing other than
a lie.

That makes you the fuckwit, not him.

BTW, if you don't believe you're a fuckwit, take a look at your text.

Incorrect ! Chernobyl is an altered form of the word Chornobyl, which
means mugwort...a grass with black color. Chernobyl was mistakenly
translated to mean "wormwood". Another Biblical prophesy

Hmmm. I recognize "chorn" as black from the song about the eyes so-described and from the
excellent bread. But I *thought* I recognized "-byl" as a form of "-ville", "-pol" etc.
Not?

Wrong:

Name origin

The city is named after the Ukrainian word for mugwort or wormwood
(Artemisia vulgaris), which is чорнобиль "chornobyl". The word is a
combination of the words chornyi (чорний, black) and byllia (билля, grass
blades or stalks), hence it literally means black grass or black stalks.
That may signify burnt grass, perhaps prior to cultivation.

Now confess, witch. Confess to all of the sins you have committed. And bow

Never attribute to prophesy what is easily attributable to coincidence
(or error).

Even if they are the same word, which is actually disputable, the
actual event shares little, if anything, in common with what was
predicted... except to the godsoaked.

(The book, written in Greek uses the word "apsinthos", which
translates to the Ukrainian word "polynu." Now if you translate the
Greek into English then you use the English word "wormwood" and
conflate it with a different plant also called wormwood in
English(this is why we have scientific names), then translate it to
Ukrainian, you get Chernobyl. I guess god was expecting to have his
unerring word written in Greek, translated into English, jumbled
around then translated into Ukrainian... that's just how he rolls,
huh? But forget all that and assume that your premise is true.)

Apparently this biblical event was the third in a series of
catastrophic events. What happened to the first two? Why haven't the
rest happened. What happened to those? For something that's true...
sorry," TRUE," it seems to spend a lot of time being wrong.

No, a star falling from the sky has nothing to do with an explosion at
a nuclear power plant, especially the one at Chernobyl. No, the
fission reaction in a nuclear power plant has nothing in common with
the reaction that happens in a star.

The problem wasn't even an uncontrolled fission reaction as in an
atomic bomb. It was overheating followed by a rupture in the
containment vessel due to excessive steam pressure.

You know, every once in a while a horoscope or fortune cookie gets
something right, that doesn't mean that all horoscopes and fortune
cookies are right, or that I'll alter my life to worship the writers
of horoscopes or fortune cookies.

Coincidence, luck, broken clock right twice a day...etc... nothing
more. Sorry.

Uh no. Chornobyl (the real non anglic name) means mugwort. Mugwort
is artemisia vulgaris and wormwood is artemisia absinthium. The more
literal translation would be black grass.

No need, since you have yet to prove the connection. Obvious
bullshit doesn't need debunking. For example, The city name comes
from a combination of chornyi (чорний, black) and byllia (билля, grass
blades or stalks); hence it literally means black grass or black
stalks, not wormwood. In point of fact, it is named after the plant
that was most prevalent in the area, "Mugwort", which also does not
mean "wormwood"

Hence, you were caught in an obvious lie. Religionists can't seem to
engage the truth. Why are you suprised that a growing number of
people are turning away from your deceit?
