Atheists don't try to disprove the existence of any god! Atheism is just a position, not a philosophy, ideology, or world view. You could be an atheist, yet still be an apatheist, or a Buddhist.

There is no such thing as an 'atheist society'. There may be
societies such as communistic ones where atheism is a part of
that society but not what rules it. You have yet to provide any
evidence that this isn't so.

Theists use it because they are incapable of understanding the world
beyond their religion so they invent positions we don't have based on
presumption that only apply inside it.

Which includes the presumption that their god is as "real" outside it
as it is inside it.

Outside the theist's religion there's nothing to deny because it's
merely somebody else's belief - not a thing that could or could not
exist.

Theists don't seem to understand just how much work they would need to
do to get it to that stage.

An it puzzles me that so many atheists who by definition are outside

Most atheists don't have anything to be agnostic about.

It's another example of theists inventing positions people oputside
their religion don't have, because to have them they'd need to be

It's the refusal to think outside his religion.

The funny thing is that they recognise the problem when they see it in
other religions, but never their own.

For example the Iranian Ayatollahs who executed people often horribly
for "waging war against God on Earth" when they simply didn't share
the same beliefs.

They "knew" this and on the rare occasions they bothered to listen,
filtered explanation through their fundamentalist perspective to
confirm it.

It is impossible to break through this kind of barrier - and far too
many American fundamentalists have a similar one about Christianity
although very few of them kill non-Cristians.

Which shoehorn non-theists into one of two alternatives, both of which
rests on the theist's presumption that their god is real instead of

that I must be an agnostic then. I accept that I am an agnostic. But
some agnostics believe in a god or gods so 'agnostic' can't be the

term that describes people who don't believe that a god exists.

When theists assert their claims have a basis in reality, atheists generally
tend to ask for evidence, which is entirely different from proof. Proof is for
mathematics and liquor.

Atheists, including myself, do many good things. As has already been explained
to you, what you term as "atheist states" were more properly identified as
communist states.

There's quite a bit of evidence indicating that there's not any kind of deity:

* There's, for starters, not only a complete lack of any empirical evidence
things such as souls, an afterlife, heaven, hell, deities, etc., but more
importantly, no investigation is attempted by theists, nor any explaination
offered as to how these supernatural realms could interact or affect our
universe.
* Statistical analysis of the benefits of intercessionary prayer have proven
to be either of no help at all, or in one study, it was even found to be
harmful (it was hypothesized that this was due to the stress added to the
patient; if they were sick enough to be prayed-for, they must REALLY be
sick!)
* The lack of any geological or any other physical evidence for any of the
supernatural claims of any religion (i.e. no worldwide flood evidence, the
world does not rest on the back of a turtle, etc.)
* The continuing replacement of supernatural explainations for natural
phenomenon with scientific ones, as these are repeatable, testable, and most
of all, have predictive power.
* The lack of any empirical evidence for any "modern" miracles. In the old
days, Deities supposedly made the sun stand still, parted seas, gave birth
to the world, etc. Today, in our modern world of scientific enquiry,
skeptical analysis, and global communication, the best these deities seem to
be able to muster is appearing in grilled cheese sandwiches. In a world
with so many problems, deities with an obsession with toast seems...
pointless.

money, and promises non-existent eternal lives in return for tithers.
And they use the vast amount of excess money in the name of charity or

On the other hand, atheists are individual and each contribute in
their own capacity, without string attached or agenda.
Even if there are some small atheist organizations, they do not ask

This was one of the reasons why I wanted to get the old alt-atheism.org site
back on line. As time goes along, we may pick up more "younger" atheists here,
or theists who may have legitimate questions. I don't like to see the well

Fasgnadh started posting links to pictures I had posted to twitter of friends
of mine and saying they were me. I responded to him directly indicating this
fact. After that, he continued to post the link, so I took the picture down.
You then told him the link was dead. He had obviously saved the picture
previously, before I took it down, in anticipation of the fact that I may take
it down.

Pretty creepy behaviour, but then, a few minutes worth of googling will
demonstrate that fasgnadh has a history of this.

And as I have pointed out the discussion was not about my sensibilities,
it was about how ppl who post in alt.atheism are treated when they
broach the subject of atheism or theism, and my experience in that
regard, and NOT how I react to that behaviour. Please stay on track and
stop trying to divert the discussion.

Well I don't know if deities exist or not. I haven't found any

Well that is your perception. I have just found this thread of
22 posts. Google only allows 5 cross posts so it is
possible my posts went nowhere. I actually assumed you
had decided not to respond to my last post which I can't
find in this thread.

The reason I snip is because I find it BORING to read
or have to scroll through your copy and paste mantra.
Also I assume the previous posts was read first so

I'll explain it again. The categorical claim is "It is true that a
deity exists." The opposite statement "It is false that any deities
exist." is not a categorical claim. It's a refutation.

First, there is no need to prove a negative claim. It is analogous to
saying "It is false that any sky pixies exist."

The burden of proof is on the person who utters the statement "It is
true that a deity exists."

Second, atheists do not have a belief. There's literally nothing to
believe in the statement "It is false that any deities exist."

It is a positive, explicit form of atheism to state "It is false that
any deities exist" in the sense that it is an active stance, and there
is conscious rejection of theistic belief.

You keep spouting my lines, but you refuse to reply directly. That's
cowardly. You haven't provided any kind of explanation for the drivel

as the God. One of his nicknames was "Heaven-Descended General". The
Democratic People's Republic of Korea's constitution states "The great
leader Comrade Kim Il Sung is the sun of the nation and the lodestar
of the reunification of the fatherland."

Both Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il are depicted as descending from
heaven throughout their dictates. Their portraits are as omnipresent
as those of Jesus in Christian churches.

For the last 60 years, there has been systematic suppression of
alternative religions to the Kim theocracy, simply because they were
able to manipulate everyone through tyranny.

What you take to be atheism, is merely the replacement of all other
religions by one.
