Archbishop Sartain praises 'wonderful contribution' of women religious

Rome, Italy, Apr 23, 2012 / 07:06 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Archbishop Peter J.
Sartain of Seattle praised American religious women as a "great gift" days
after being asked by Pope Benedict to help reform the U.S.'s Leadership
Conference of Women Religious.

"What I hope and pray for every day is that I, first of all, do as the Lord
asks and do as the Holy Father asks," said the archbishop, describing the
task of renewal ahead to CNA on April 23.

He said he hopes "to work in a positive way," recognizing "the wonderful
contribution of religious women in the United States, and to work in a way
that shows our continued love and support for their extraordinary
contribution."

Archbishop Sartain made his remarks in Rome only days after Pope Benedict
XVI also publicly praised the contribution religious women make to the U.S.
Church and society.

"In coming months I will have the honor of canonizing two new saints from
North America," the Pope said in a Saturday April 21 address to the Papal
Foundation, a U.S.-based charitable institute.

The pontiff described Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha and Blessed Mother Marianne
Cope - both who are set to be canonized on Oct 21. - as "striking examples
of sanctity and heroic charity" who also "remind us of the historic role
played by women in the building up of the Church in America."

"Those are exactly my views," Archbishop Sartain echoed, "which makes me
very happy because obviously in the United States the role of women has been
important from the very beginning."

The archbishop explained that it was the women religious of Archdiocese of
Seattle who were the "pioneers" in the "evangelization of the Gospel, care
for the poor and the sick and education," as happened elsewhere across
America.

Controversy ignited, however, when the Vatican's Congregation for the
Doctrine of the Faith ended a four-year audit of the Leadership Conference
of Women Religious on April 18, concluding that the organization was in the
midst of a "crisis" of belief.

Catholic women will do anything for the
Church except commit to it.

Once we gave them the right to vote, they became troublesome.

No need, it is self destructing quite well as it is.

There will always be the diehards who will follow even the most
foolish of faiths, but in reality even now over 80% of Catholics
ignore many teachings of the church.

The Sudden Decline of the Catholic Church in America
Jul 20, 2011

Posting the following article piggy backs on yesterday’s
post on The New Paganism. These are two exceptional
articles that get at the core of why our culture and the
Catholic Church has seen such a sharp decline in faith and
morality in recent decades. Understanding this goes a long
way in taking steps to undo the damage.

Everybody has long since acknowledged that the Catholic
Church in the United States went into a serious decline
beginning in the middle to late 1960s. Great numbers of
priests left the priesthood, even greater numbers of nuns
left the convents, and recruitment of new nuns and new
priests dropped precipitously. Sunday Mass attendance
sharply declined. Enrollment at Catholic elementary and
high schools declined, leading to the closing of many of
these schools. The Catholic publishing industry nearly
collapsed.

And the most effective recruiting tool for the Mormons is the Book of Mormon
revealed by an angel. Both stories are equally true.

Pope Benedict asks forgiveness over priest abuse scandal
June 12, 2010

VATICAN CITY -- Addressing the sexual abuse crisis from
the seat of the Roman Catholic Church before thousands
of white-robed priests, Pope Benedict XVI on Friday begged
forgiveness, saying the church would do everything possible
to prevent priests from abusing children.

"We, too, insistently beg forgiveness from God and from the
persons involved, while promising to do everything possible
to ensure that such abuse will never occur again," Benedict
told thousands of priests and the faithful gathered in St.
Peter's Square for celebrations marking the end of the
Vatican's Year of the Priest.

Yet the pope's remarks Friday seemed to signal a growing
awareness of the extent of the crisis. They came weeks after
the pope had said in Portugal that the greatest threat to
the church came from "the sin inside the church" rather than
from outside and added that "forgiveness is not a substitute
for justice."

As far as vocations? There are a lot more alternatives for young people
today than there were in the past. There are also a lot more opportunities
for the lay ministry. Young people who might have taken a vocation now just
volunteer for their local parish or diocese.

Also, there is a decreasing perceived importance of religion in society in
general, and this tends to influence the faithful. Church attendence is off.
People are content to remain home on Sunday. There is a loss of faith in
many quarters. The loss of vocations is not a simple problem.

When the last of the Nephites passed away, the Lamanites reigned
victorious throughout the Western Hemisphere. Their descendants are
found today as the native American community. Except that the Jews (thus
Lamanites) were Caucasoid, while the original Americans are Mongoloid,
originating in the steppes of east Asia and migrating here over a land
bridge between Siberia and Alaska in 9,000 BC.

Since vocations and religious activity continue to be high in areas where
most people have little or no education, it seems clear that ignorance is
the solution to the problem.
