The Darwin Award above may be awarded to many among old and young
alike who fail to think of the future. But it's the old who vote so
the burden is upon their shoulders. Once upon a time, among the
Indians, the Elders meant the wise ones. Now they have been trained to
vote for their own issues or irrelevant issues, while ignoring the big
deep issues...

"Evolution operates on individuals, not populations, we learn. Yet,
evolution can select for genes that produce the most grandchildren, a
look-ahead ability that gives us grandparents (and incest taboos.) And
this lookahead ability provides the necessary ingredient to allow
evolution to work on populations. If animals breed until they outstrip
their resources, we would see boom-bust cycles all over the place. But
we do not. Population bottlenecks are not good for the children of the
children, so (countless generations of trial and error) evolved
mechanisms that control population density."

It makes sense. But often the sources where the old folks get their
news are wrong --even the page above is wrong down the line. Listen...

"Rats. Even if they get plenty of food pellets, overcrowded rats
become aggressive. Same with people. Look around and notice. Our
culture is limiting conflict and aggression by hiding us from each
other. Twenty years ago, car windows were clear glass and we could see
other drivers; now car windows are tinted, hiding our faces (unless
you squint!) Can you find other ways that we limit our ability to
notice how many people are around us?"

The problem in developed societies is not overpopulation, but our
predatory habits. Japan, Germany and Holland have very high population
densities and people get along fine! They may be considered HUMANIST
SOCIETIES, and in Germany the very fast and very slow coexist. It's
the very nature of Stupid Unnecessary Vehicles with tinted windows
that makes us run go into hiding, and you can't even look at a driver
in the eye to make sure he saw you on your mundane bike. It's like
facing an evil vehicle without driver, a drone for the wannabe
predator.

THE BICYCLE/PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION OPTION ALLOWS HIGH POPULATION
DENSITY WITHOUT THE RAT EATING THE MOUSE. You don't see the level of
road rage you see among drivers (dog eats dog) among bus/train
passengers and cyclists.

I will save some jungle wisdom for tomorrow though. If only I had a
medium to talk to Darwin.
