Several people has sent me letters (through the alt.astrology news group on
the netscape), and asked for details about the Kündig rectification method (KRM).
I promised to do so once and for all:
HISTORY
I don't know much about the development or history of the KRM. What I know,
is that the method seems to be the most common rectification method in Scandina-
via - and almost unknown in the rest of the world. The following is mostly about
the KRM's history in Denmark.
Heinrich Kündig was a Swiss astrologer, who in 1955 presented the KRM to-
gether with several other rectification methods. Kündig was very modest about his
invention, but his followers have a tendency of getting fanatic about the KRM - in
my opinion because this method actually WORKS, and produces results, when it comes
to predictive astrology. And when I talk about predictive astrology, I mean a prag-
matic, not-very-psychologic and no-nonsense astrology.
From Schwitzerland the KRM went through Germany and came to Scandinavia. Not
many German astrologers use the KRM - to them KRM is history. Why didn't the KRM
make a more impact impression on the Germans? Probably because it is a very tedious
job to make the calculations necesarry for the KRM, and the German astrologers never
invented a computerprogramme for this purpose. In Denmark KRM got several enthusias-
tic advocates, most famous are Irene Christensen (now dead). Irene Christensen
grounded The Irene Christensen Institute in Copenhagen and thereby laid the founda-
tion for modern astrology in Denmark. All this happened way back in the fifties.
Next important step for KRM was the development of computersoftware to make
the necesary calculations in order to practice the KRM. I don't know when the PCA-
programme first appeared, but it seems to be the only computer-programme in the
world with a KRM-feature. You can get the PCA-programme from Electric Ephemeris in
either London or Denmark:

Unfortunately I cannot give you any English book-titles about the KRM - all I
know is the Danish litterature on the subject. From the royal library in Denmark I
once got the Heinrich Kündigs own books in German - but the method seems to have
evolved a lot since Kündig invented the method, so you won't get the most recent ad-
vances, if you read these first books.
For my own part, I have been working with the KRM professionally for 8 years
now; through this period I have come to 8 (or 9) rules, that I recommend when using
the KRM. But really, you don't have to follow my recommendations - I got the rules
from experiments and experience - and you can do the same. If you doubt the advan-
tages of the KRM or my rules - try them out, and see with your own eyes, if they
work. There is really no reason to be fanatic about the KRM.
THE THEORY.
I cannot give you the whole theory with all the calculations here. I consi-
der myself progressive in the way, that I don't use a typewriter, if I can use a
computer with a "notepad", and I don't use the "notepad", if I can use a advanced
programme like "Word". So I don't spend hours doing the Kündig-Calculations, if I
can leave this tedious work to a machine.
In short Kündig says that allthough you were born at a certain time, like 10
am, you will also have a certain time for your cosmic birth, for instance 10.05 am.
You find the cosmic birth time through the above mentioned calculations. The cosmic
birth time is useful, when it comes to predictive astrology - according to Kündig
the chart can only start on one of the cosmic birth moments. Kündig called these
cosmic birth moments "cuts".
In this article I'll use the chart of Kurt Cobain as an example. You'll see
his Kündig-cuts here - first the suggested birth-time, then the Kündig-cuts:

According to the information I've got, Kurt Cobain was born 7.20 pm - the
rest of the information you needed for making a chart (latitude, longitude, time-
zone, etc.) you can see from the figure above. From this time, 7.20 pm, the PCA-
programme finds all the Kündig-cuts +/- 2 hours.
THE 8 RULES FOR A PROPER KÜNDIG RECTIFICATION OF A CHART:
1) Use the Kündig Rectification Method consistently!
I'm always embaressed when I see an astrologer, who uses several dif-
ferent rectification methods like Kündig, Naibod, Kepler... If the first
doesn't work, they hope the next will! If you cannot make the chart work,
keep trying until it works! (Or with a poetic expression: "Until the eagle
stands clearly against the sky".)
2) The only allowed techniques are progressions and transits.
(The progressions mentioned here are the progressions of MC derived from the
Kündig-Sun-key. It's a matter of how fast the progressive MC moves. Again:
let the PCA-programme do these calculations.)
3) The most important events in persons life will be shown by aspects to MC or
ASC. MC and ASC depend completely on the chosen time. Therefore: Only use "ma-
jor events" in a persons life, when you rectify his/her chart. Major events
are marriage, birth of children, death of relatives, the persons own death -
or what ever the person considers important events himself/herself!!! Minor
events will be shown by aspects between planets.
4) There is a distinctions between primary and secundary significance:
- Primary significance concerns aspects from the rulers of the chart; these
aspects are the strongest.
- Secondary significance concerns aspects from the planets; these aspects are
are weaker.
Example rules:
a. A marriage can be established with an aspect between ASC/MC and the persons
7th house ruler (primary significance) or between ASC/MC and Venus (seconda-
ry significance).
b. You can only get children with primary significance; if for instance Kurt
Cobain had got a child with the chart derived from 7.20 pm, this event could
only happen with an aspect between ASC/MC and the Moon or Saturn, because
these two planets are the rulers of the 5th and 11th house (children); se-
condary significance like an aspect between ASC/MC and Sun or Uranus would
not be strong enough to mark a childs birth in the parent's chart.
5) Aspects to MC or ASC can only work in 4 ways:
· From progressive to radix.
· From progressive to progressive.
· From transit to radix.
· From transit to progressive.
In major events the planets are limited to:
- progressions: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars - exceptions are the Moon and Jupiter.
- transits: Pluto, Neptune, Uranus - exceptions are Saturn and Chiron.
6) You can use the following aspects:
- conjunction ( 0 dg) - semisquare ( 45 dg)
- opposition (180 dg) - sesquisquare (135 dg)
- trine (120 dg) - semisextile ( 30 dg)
- square ( 90 dg) - quinqunx (150 dg)
- sextile ( 60 dg) - noviles (40, 80, 160 dg)
with an orbis of no more than 20' if you have the date and the place for the event,
and unless faster planets like the progressive Moon or transit Saturn "tricker" the
major aspect "into action". For several years I made experiments with the quintiles
(72 dg and 144 dg) and to some degree the septiles, but I've never seen them work
to my satisfaction.
7) Each sign has his own ruler, when it comes to predictions:
Aries : Mars Leo : Sun Sagitarius : Jupiter
Taurus : Bachus Virgo : Chiron Capricorn : Saturn
Gemini : Mercury Libra : Venus Aquarius : Uranus
Cancer : Moon Scorpio : Pluto Pisces : Neptun
(Here is a contradiction: When it comes to the actual calculations of the
Kündig
cuts, the PCA-programme uses the "old" rulerships.)
Bachus, the ruler of Taurus, has yet to be discovered; whereever Bachus rules
in
the chart, there will be a "blind corner", and the predictions concerning this area
will
not be accurate. If for instance you have the 8th cusp in Taurus, it can be
difficult to
see the circumstances of your death in the chart.
Notice (in the Cobain-example) that I use the Placidus system of houses. I
tryed
out the Koch system for a couple of years, but I found that Placidus was better.
8) You can not use an event for rectification, unless you know both the date AND the
geografic place for the event, because the progressive ASC differs from place to
place.
When you get your own PCA-programme, have a try and see for yourself: Determine
where
the progressive ASC is on a certain date for, say, respectively New york and San
Franci-
sco. Only exceptions from this rule are charts for states and countries. If you work
with
a chart for a country you should always use the capital as the place.
A new rule:
9) A new rule has come to world: If you use the Node, do use the mean Node! The Node
tells something about karmic relations. If you know when and where the persons
parents
were born, you can use this event for rectification - even though the person was not
born at this particular moment! The birth of a person's parent is marked with a
major
aspect between the Node and ASC/MC.
I'm not sure yet if this rule really will work every time, since I haven't checked
it
out completely - but until now it has worked fine.
AN EXAMPLE: KURT COBAIN.
Normally when I do a rectification, I use at least 3-5 major events in the
per-
sons life, but this will do to illustrate the KRM.
Kurt blew his brains out late 04-06/early 04-07... his body was found by an
electrician approx. 11am in his guest-house next to his home-proper in Seattle, WA.
The
coroner said that he had been dead "at least 34 hours".
Now, if we use Kurd Cobains suicide as a rectification event, it is my
opinion
that the right "Kündig-cut" should be 6.39.26 pm. In this way his death would be
marked
by
1) progressive MC Trine natal Mars : - 0 dg 10'
2) progressive MC Trine natal Sun : - 0 dg 12'
3) progressive ASC inconjunct natal Mars : + 0 dg 13'
4) progressive ASC quinqunx natal Sun : + 0 dg 12'
5) progressive MC square progressive Saturn: + 0 dg 03'
6) transit Pluto sesquisquare natal Moon : - 0 dg 07'
7) transit Neptune sesquisquare natal MC : - 0 dg 08'
Cobain has several other aspects to Mars, but their orbis are larger than 0
dg
20', so they don't count. But what we have here is certainly enough to kill! Mars
rules
the 8th house: Death. Don't let yourself be fooled by the socalled harmonic Trine!
And
notice that the way of dying are implied by the two vere ego-strong planets, Sun and
Mars: Suicide. Depression is shown by the tough square to Saturn, the transit aspect
between Pluto and the natal Moon tells about the mood: "I wish I never was born!",
and
transit Neptune implies some sort of influence from drugs or alcohol. Since Neptune
ru-
les his 7th house, he could have had some problems with his girlfriend/wife just
before
his death. Usually Neptune aspects imply some kind of sorrow or enhanced
sensitivity.

A book in English on the Kundig method is 'The Precise Astrological
Prediction' by Irene Christensen. The copy I have is published by
'Irene Christensen's Publishing House 20, Gersonsvej, 2900 Hellerup,
Copenhagen. and was published in 1974.
I tried the system against many closely timed births ie. Royalty many
years ago, but found discrepancies. This may have been due to the
fact that the true cosmic birth time can take place some time from the
observed birth. ie. Edgar Cayce quoted sometimes hours difference
both before and after birth for the soul to enter the body.
