I have a map by Cutler that says "150'" -- presumably 150 feet. That
sounds plausible, but Cutler has so much nonsensical stuff on the map
I'd like to find another map.
I can't find anything in the WCR.
Any help appreciated.

Google Earth shows the distance (using the ruler under 'tools') being
about 300 ft
You asked for a good estimate but mine is based on my visit to DP a
few years ago. I'd say 150 feet is a pretty good ballpark estimate.
I'll have to check, but I believe it's on someone else's map as well.
Could be Graig Ciccone.
Yes, thank you. I can't be sure which point the measurement should be
taken from. If he is only interested in the ground distance or the
sighting distance. I can't remember how high Bowers was. I thought it was
19 feet, but I may be wrong.
You could try this Nat'l Geographic online map. It allows differing
perspectives through Satellite and Bird's Eye Views. It also allows
for rotation, which helps to use the measuring scale provided.

If the ground distance to the fence in a line perpendicular from the south
side of the tower is 300 feet, and Bowers' eye level inside the tower was
19 feet, then applying the ol' Pythagorean Theorem gives us 300.6 feet
from Bowers' eyes to the bottom of the fence, and 300.3 feet to the top of
the fence.
I don't see Bower's Tower. But it would have to be beyond the railroad
tracks, wouldn't it?

Has anyone confirmed the 300 ft distance from the tower to the fence?
If nothing else, I'd like to corroborate google Earth's accuracy.
Thanks.
