On November 4, 1963, less than three weeks before his own death, JFK
dictated a memoir entry, pertaining to the recent assassination of
Vietnam's President Diem. The voices of both of Kennedy's two young

This one isn't a Kennedy call, but it's very interesting nonetheless
-- a March 12, 1964, conversation between JFK's successor (Lyndon
Johnson) and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. This short phone call
concerns a rather odd subject -- an FBI background check that Hoover
had just completed on Hollywood actress Janet Leigh (of "Psycho"
fame):

Excellent DVP a five star on those audio recordings . Tremendous , I'd not
heard those before .
I'd like to ask you a question regarding your opinion on JFK's Plan on
withdrawing or not withdrawing from Vietnam .
Taking into account as you answer that JFK's platform when running for
office was criticism of the Eisenhower administrations failure to stop the
communist take over of China .
Do you see it as a reasonable option , to be had and laid upon the table ,
for JFK to withdraw all troops by 1965 ?
Just curious .

It was certainly an "option" I suppose, yes. But as of Kennedy's death in
November '63, I don't think JFK had any intention of withdrawing "all"
U.S. personnel (troops) from Vietnam by 1965.
JFK's CBS-TV interview in early September 1963 gives a good general
overview of Kennedy's opinions and thoughts regarding the Vietnam
situation (as it existed as of that '63 date, of course)....and per that
interview with Walter Cronkite, in my opinion it's just plain silly to
assert (as some people seem to want to do) that Kennedy was bent on
withdrawing all forces (or "advisers" as JFK called them) from Vietnam.
I think the following direct quote from John F. Kennedy sums up his
administration's late-1963 posture regarding Vietnam as succinctly and
accurately as possible. Do some theorists think Kennedy is lying his ass
off here? Apparently many people think he's doing just that:
"I don't agree with those who say we should withdraw [from Vietnam].
That would be a great mistake...a great mistake." -- President Kennedy;
Via CBS Interview; September 1963

I think you are overstating this. And most people had blamed Truman, not
Eisenhower. China was already lost by the time Eisenhower was sworn in.
What you may be trying to remember is the famous bomber gap charge that
Kennedy tried to use against the Republicans. Kennedy was not running
against Eisenhower. He was running against Nixon, who was Eisenhower's
Vice-President.

I merely was quoting President Kennedy's exact words from September 1963.
Somehow, per Tony, this equals a desire on my part "to defame the memory
of President Kennedy".
A curious leap of logic indeed.

That would explain a lot. I does seem that the person posting as "Anthony

It was the “missile gap” that JFK ran with (not tried) and it served
him well. The American people believed it. Without it perhaps the
very close election would have gone to Nixon.
Ike knew that this gap didn’t exist from intelligence gained by the
U-2 flights. However, to disclose this fact would have revealed the
existence of the U-2. Obviously Ike didn’t reveal this knowledge to
Nixon because Nixon would probably have sacrificed national security
to get elected.
