In 1973, virtually all documents related to MKULTRA were destroyed.
Mulholland's manuals were thought to be among themuntil a single
surviving copy of each, complete with illustrations, was recently
discovered in the agency's archives.
The manuals reprinted in this work represent the only known complete
copy of Mulholland's instructions for CIA officers on the magician's
art of deception and secret communications.

records as a safeguard.

I see that someone gave you a Google one star for reporting this. That
is typical on a newsgroup where very few are interested in hearing the
truth about the CIA.
JB
Nah, just someone who thinks one-star is the highest rating, OR
the same stalker who has been one starring my delightful posts for
years!
C'est la vie!

I don't get this star business. One star is the default rating given to
all messages. Who would ever get a 5-star rating?
That is silly. The one star is given to all new messages by default.
It's interesting, but the title is a little misleading. This book is not
THE manual. It is a history of CIA clandestine operations.
And of course it is propaganda, praising the work of the CIA.
And only tells half of the story. Like the synopsis of the Frank Olson
story. It claims that Olson jumped out of the window. A reexamination of
the body shows that Olson did not jump. He was hit over the head and
dropped out of the window by CIA officer Lashbrook.
BTW, my father was part of that same group which was unwittingly
experimented on and would have become the next Frank Olson if he had not
resigned.
Not true. Many messages here on Google never have any stars at all.
Most people don't bother to rate messages.
Tom (tomnln) Rossley, perchance?

Tony, the default rating is NO STARS. Someone has to click the one
star to give a rating of one star. The little stars turn yellow if
someone gives a rating. The stars remain neutral if no rating has been
given.
The one star rating is NOT the default rating.
As for a 5 star rating, if one person rates a post with 5 stars, then
all the stars will appear yellow. If someone comes along later, and
rates the post with a one star, the number of yellow stars will
decrease because the rating reflects an average of all ratings.

Wrong. The default is NO RATING.
There are plenty of posts with no rating at all, and no yellow stars.
Where did you get the wacky idea that one star is the default rating?
The stars turn yellow only if someone gives a post a rating.

I have had a one star stalker rating my posts for years.
Even simply informational links are often given a one star.

You should stick with commenting on JFK, Tony. The default is no
rating or no star.
JB
You are wrong. The default is no rating or no star. You get lots of
five star ratings, Tony. You also get lots of one star ratings on the
same post.
JB
You want to know why people don't react to a post as this with the vim
and vigor you wish they did? I'll tell you: in a nutshell, reports of
CIA trickery are so numerous that they...they...are
...yawn.
Sorry, I lost interest.
Every message I read when it has been posted and propagated has a
one-star rating. It is the default for new messages.
The star ratings mean absolutely nothing.
Every single message I read has a one-star rating.
Every single message has a one-star rating. When I compose message and
it is posted and I read it before anyone has had a chance to read it, it
automatically has a one-star rating.

Google.

You can keep saying that but you are wrong as others have pointed out. The
default is no star at all. You only get one star by someone assigning that
rating.
JB
You are absolutley correct about that. McAdams has disciples who always
give him five stars no matter what he has to say. You also get lots of
five star ratings.
JB
Here we have an example of an LN jumping to a conclusion.
He assumes I "wish" people reacted to my post with "Vim and vigor"!
Frankly I could care less HOW they react. I found the publication of
this book interesting, and I thought some other folks might also find
it interesting.
Someone asked me about the Google star rating, and I responded with a
factual description of how that system works.
jas has combined the two issues and come up with a fanciful assumption
that the "one star" rating signifies folks are reacting to this post
with little vim and vigor! Faulty reasoning. At the time, only one
person had rated the post, so "one" person - probably the same person
who routinely applies one star ratings to my posts - clicked the
rating button. jas confabulates such an action with proof that folks
are reacting with less than vim and vigor to "a post as this".
Utter nonsense. I think other LNs might consider rating the thinking
process that led to jas's conclusion on a scale of 1 to 10.
I'll tell you: in a nutshell, reports of

I do.

not to take the time to respond!

Well, you have a strange browser then.
No one else in the universe experiences the same phenomenon
The stars do not turn yellow unless some makes a choice.
What color are the stars on your browser, Tony.

Just your messages? Weird.
There are plenty of posted messages that have NO RATING, Tony.
Now, someone must be stalking you! And as soon as you post a message,
that person or group of conspirators is immediately on their game and
clicking that one star button for your post.

I don't see any yellow stars. This must be a Google thing.
No color. I am using the latest Thunderbird now that I have Windows 7.

No color.
I don't know what the heck you're talking about.
I don't even look at the star rating, and frankly couldn't care less
who ranks what or how many.
I was responding to Blubaugh's post, I think.
Hmmmmm.... maybe I should get more sleep...
Let me help you out, you only get one star on any post you make.
JB
Thank you. That's better than no stars.
That isn't true but you would have to read what the stars mean. No
stars mean that no one thought it was noteworthy either good or bad.
One star makes it clear (garbage).
JB
Well then, in that case, I give your past posts one star.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
No problem, that is your right. Someone will come along and correct
your wrong rating with five stars. You one stars seem to be holding up
though.
JB
Actually JB Conspiracists had a copy all along :
See Magician Robert Groden turn a 'shotgun' into a 'rifle' :

Can't get better than that !

AM if full of wacky idea's . One is conspiracy in JFK's death .
tl
Sorry Tiger I'II have to change my m.o. :-0
tl
Could it be that .John's posts have the added benefit of telling the
truth ?
tl
"this legendary document, the brainchild of John Mulholland, then
America’s most famous magician, was believed lost forever"
Well I guess that explains alot . The mere conotation that it contains
'trickery and deception' is enough to get the feathers ruffled on your
average CTer .
tl
I'm just trying to fit in by going with the majority opinion.
Guess you didn't bother actually reading that article.
Apparently you didn't notice the name of the person who pointed out
Bob's error.
And better than that, proved it.

BTW, you probably didn't know it, but some weapons are both a shotgun

Not really a need for those types anymore , I own a 'Mossberg' 12 GA.
and have ammo thats solid shot with mag loads . It turns a shotgun
into a rifle by the type of ammo used .
tl
The idea is that you can take one weapon and shoot two different types
of animals which require different ammo. For example the shotgun for
birds and the .22 for squirrels. You don't need a deer slug to shoot
squirrels. Won't be much meat left for eating. And you don't shoot deer
slugs up into the air.
