Why wrap up curtain rods?

So a guy picks up some curtains rods from the house where his wife and
kids are living and takes them to work because he wants to take them to
the boarding house where he's staying.

Why does he go to the trouble of taking wrapping paper and tape from work
and wrapping up the rods? Why not just grab the damn curtain rods and
carry them like they are?

Just asking.

To protect them from damage. Frazier said he used to wrap up curtain
rods for customers when he worked in a Five and Dime. Why do groceries
put your food in a bag? Ever been out in the read world?

How in the world would curtain rods get damaged being transported in the
back seat of a car?

Oswald didn't work at a five and dime, Anthony. He wasn't handling
merchandise for a customer or giving someone an early Christmas gift.

It defies imagination that anyone would believe Lee's cock and bull story
about curtain rods.

Oh my... Mr Marsh making fun of foreigners not being able to type English,

"Ever been out in the read world?"

Sad..

Equally sad is the habit of insulting other posters.. Very "mature"...

And speaking of "the real world"...Just how much "damage" can be done to a
few "curtain rods" while transporting them from a few miles to a new
destination? He sure went to a lot of trouble to transport "curtain rods"!

There's tons of logical fallacies we *could* apply, this is not on of
them. Anthony is right on this issue.

And although I think the bag had the rifle in it. The fact that Oswald's
room already had curtain rods is also meaningless. Maybe he just wanted to
change them.

John, I am glad to hear that you believe that OH Lee was toting his rifle

But wanting to change his curtain rods???

A man living alone in a rented room wants to change the curtain rods?
Changing the curtains I can understand. Maybe something in a dull Soviet
green to go along with his Karl Marx portrait.

But what possible difference could it have made to Lee what rods were
holding up the curtains?

As I stated, I think the rifle was in the bag.

My point being that speculating as to why Oswald might have put curtain
rods in a bag, or anything else relating to it is simply meaningless. As
is the fact that his room already had curtain rods.

It defies imagination that anyone would believe the WC's cock and bull
story that someone would use a paper bag to sneak the rifle into the
TSBD when it was made a few inches shorter than the rifle.

John, do you really believe that? Do you honestly believe that a man

that package was wrapped? I don't believe it, not even for a second.
Furthermore, Gladys Johnson stated that the rules of the rooming house
included no adding to the decor of the rooms and so forth, by the tenants.
Why would a man want to change curtain rods, anyway? The room he rented
had venetian blinds, plus curtains.

And it's especially ridiculous to think Oswald wanted to change the
curtain rods in a room that he quite obviously was going to be vacating
within the next few weeks anyway.

At the very latest, Marina & Lee were going to get back together after the
holidays in 1963. Marina testified as much.

But maybe some conspiracy theorists think that Marina and Lee and Junie
and Rachel were all going to live in LHO's large closet on Beckley after
reuniting following the holidays. Therefore, Lee wanted to spruce up his
crackerbox for when the four of them would be sharing the luxurious living
quarters at the roominghouse.

I don't think I missed your point John. My point is that all questions
about "why" he would want to do something like that pale in comparison to
the mere fact that no curtain rods were ever found anywhere, thus making
the story far more than "suspect" on logical grounds. ...but they did
find a certain rifle traceable to his fingerprints. & documents of
ownership.

LHO was innocent. Bored with moving boxes around in the hot dusty TSBD
that didn't even have air conditioning, he was practicing for a career
change as an interior decorator. The curtain rods weren't for his
boardinghouse room, it already had curtains. They were for the 6th floor
window. After seeing how nice it looked he was hoping to get a big
contract to do all the windows in the TSBD. He custom made the paper bag
so he could keep this project a secret until making a formal presentation.
As a matter of fact he did bring his rifle to work that morning, but sold
it to some guy in the parking lot. Oddly enough the guy was his same
height wearing clothes just like him.

At the time of the motorcade LHO was in the lunchroom making notes on how
to brighten up that dull and boring room so more employees would start
using it. After hearing loud noises from somewhere inside the building he
saw the same guy running down the stairs, who yelled, "Your rifle shoots
high and to the right!" Embarrassed LHO yelled back, "Oh yeah, I forgot to
mention that, but the scope is adjustable. What the hell were you shooting
at anyway?" The guy said "Politicians" and disappeared down the stairs.
Obviously the guy was joking so LHO chuckled, then bought a coke and went
downstairs to see what all the ruckus was about.

Shame on all of you for doubting the curtain rod story.

Lanny,

If I had been Lee's driver that morning, I probably would have let the
curtain rod tale slide, although I would have wondered a little about the
wrapping.

But as soon as I learned that the president had been shot and the shots
came from the building where Lee and I worked, one of those little light
bulbs would have lit up over my head.

That's what it means to take ALL the evidence into account, to put the
pieces together and form a coherent theory rather than merely focusing on
each tiny detail.

You don't know that for a fact.

The fact that you ignore is that the existing curtains and curtain rods
were very flimsy. In fact one curtain rod was broken by a reporter that
weekend. You have no concept of why a roomer in a rooming house would want
to put in heavier curtains and sturdier curtain rods because you've always
lived a privileged life in your mansion, never in the real world in a
rooming house.

change the curtains you have to also change the type of curtain rods.

They have to be strong enough to hold the heavier curtains. For example,
the curtain rods in Oswald's room where so flimsy that a report broke
one just by stepping on the curtain.

So what? Oswald was a criminal. You've never lived in a rooming house. I
lived in a rooming house for several years and had the same rules. The
very first thing I did was go to the shopping center and bought room
darkening shades with rubber backing. But the curtain rods in the room
were the wrong type so I had to by new curtain rods with hooks. There was
a very intense street light right outside the window so it was impossible
to sleep with hr original flimsy curtains. You should really leave your
mansion and get out into the real world some time.

Okay, Anthony. I see your point.

If I ever find myself living in a rooming house, I will absolutely pay
close attention to the curtain rods.

And if I decide to take a rifle to work with me, for instance if I want to
clean and oil it during my lunch hour, I will wrap it up in a neat package
and write on it CURTAIN RODS. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THAT RIFLE I ORDERED
UNDER A FALSE NAME. Just to avoid any undo controversy.

I never said it ruled it out. But it DOES make it an utterly
unsubstantiated claim---and when viewed in context of the overall
evidence---argues in FAVOR of the assertion that it was more likely
something ELSE. Like maybe the rifle that was no longer in Irving, but
WAS found up near a sniper's nest on a floor LHO had been working on the
day JFK was assassinated.

If you are again talking about making an "exculpatory case" for his
innocence, I personally think that's a rather "academic" exercise 50 years
later. At this point I am mainly concered that the historical record be
set straight and that ALL relevant facts that form a mosaic of Oswald's
guilt be presented.

Having said that, I would not even concede that the failure to find any
such curtain rods would prove meaningless to a jury in its deliberations.
I think it absolutely would carry some weight, though only a small part of
the overall picture of his guilt.

You run the risk of becoming known as Straw Man Anthony. Not that I would

You must not have read the eye witness testimony that makes it clear that
the bag was not long enough to hold the broken down MC. LHO carried it in
his palm and UNDER his arm. He was not seven feet tall so the bag was too
short to carry the MC. I happen to think it was already in the TSBD.

How did Castor sneak his rifles into the TSBD two days earlier?

@John F. .....

Oh come now, John. "Holidays" (plural) doesn't mean JUST Thanksgiving, for
Pete sake. She meant after Christmas or New Year's Day. That's why she
said "holidays" (plural). Turkey Day is just ONE holiday.

Not the point I was trying to convey.

To put it succinctly, I don't believe her testimony.

Point being in just a few weeks (if after New Years Day) they would have
been back together. I think that would have been enough for Lee, seeing as
how it takes some time to get a place to live anyway.

No, I think she thoroughly rebuffed him on the 21st, and may well be why
JFK was murdered.

future.
