The name "Mannlicher-Carcano" annoys the Italians because the famous Austrian rifle designer Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher had nothing to do with the design of this rifle. "It was developed by the chief technician Salvatore Carcano at the Turin Army Arsenal in 1890 and called the Model 91 (M91)." It is a 100% Italian rifle the Austrians and Germans had nothing to do with.

And who cares that the Italians are annoyed?
The WC and the US government call it a Mannlicher-Carcano.
I prefer to call it just a Carcano.
