I am a big fan of Joey Wang and I am looking for her erotic movies. I
saw one very hot long time before she got famous with Chinese Ghost
Story, but don't know the name. Do you happen to know it so please
email me the name or post it here. Thanks in advance.
mmm...this is really news for me...Joey Wong made
some erotic films long time before A CHINESE GHOST
STORY? She was 20 years old when CGS was made...
long time before she was 20...you were talking about
Joey Wong starring some kiddie soft-porn flicks???
look at everything she's done...Clara Law's THE REINCARNATION
OF GOLDEN LOTUS probably is the most "erotic" Joey Wong
movie, but it's not at all an out and out erotic movie (not even rated
Cat. III), and it was made after CGS (or in a way, Joey Wong's image
and performance in CGS earned her that role and the leads in
several other movies).
so...if that movie did exist, or there were other Joey Wong
erotic films out there...please someone tell us the film titles
and how to find them *_*

Hmmm...not sure what you mean by "erotic", but I suspect Little Woman might
be the film you're asking about. It's a Cat III rated film what includes
nude scenes (not by Joey!) that aren't in the Taiwanese version of the film
known as Ah Ying / Ming Ghost. However, Ah Ying was originally released in
Taiwan in 1991 and the recut version of the film, Little Woman was released
in Hong Kong in 1993 so it doesn't meet your pre-A Chinese Ghost Story
criteria.
As far as other "erotic" films (again making the assumption that you're
talking about films with strong sexual content or explict nudity ala the
Erotic Ghost Story trilogy), I can't think of any other films that might
possibly fit the bill. If you have any more info about the movie I might be
able to help with the title, but as far as I know Joey's never appeared in
any "erotic" or Cat III film other than Little Woman. And even then, Little
Woman's nude scenes have nothing directly to do with Joey or her character
and were probably inserted to further the box office appeal of the film.
As a fellow Joey fan, please stop by my site at www.for-joey.com for a
complete(?) Joey filmography, pics and other stuff. I've still got lots more
to add but I hope you enjoy it.
Hope this helps,

Hey Deadmead...
Thanks for posting! While I was writing my response I was thinking that if
anyone knew the answer to the question it would be you!
Do you happen to know anything about Ah Ying? As I mentioned in my previous
post, I've been able to confirm that it was originally a 1991 Taiwanese
release, then recut and released as "Sien Neui Dik Yuk Mong" / "Little
Woman" (my rough translation of the Cantonese title: Desires of a A Divine
Woman) in December 1993.
I agree...if there are any other Joey films that I've never heard about I'd
love to know! Don't know if I like the idea of Joey doing an "erotic" movie
though...a big part of her appeal for me is the "mystery". *BLUSH* Shame on
you for even using Joey's name and "kiddie soft-porn flicks" in the same
sentence! <GRIN>
Oh...BTW...don't know if you remember this, but thanks so much for your info
about "Fly Past Yin Yan Circle". I finally found my copy of "Spirit Love"
and it's definitely the same film. Also, hope you don't mind, but I've used
some of your posts to this newsgroup (in particular the one about Joey's
film debut) as reference on my website.
Thanks again...

yes, I do know the film (watching it in theater). I didn't
mention it in my previous post because the "erotic"
element is so subtle and implicit in that movie that I don't
think it qualifies as an "erotic film" in the conventional
sense (so I chose to point out GOLDEN LOTUS, in which
at least there are sex scenes [not explicit, Cat. III or even
IIB kinda sex of course] featuring Joey Wong)

hahaha...sorry, my bad ^_* and I completely agree with you on the
Joey "mystery" Wong thing ... in a way, it is "erotic"...but if we
define "erotic" in this way...probably more than half of her
movies can be seen as "erotic movies"@@

I've posted part of my Joey movie list below (known films up to 1987) and
the only film that would seem to fit would be A Hearty Response with Chow
Yun Fat.
Really brief synposis: Joey's an illegal Mainland Chinese immigrant who
pretends to have lost her memory and thinks Chow is her husband. The usual
light drama / love story begins between Joey and Chow until the man who
illegally brought Joey to Hong Kong (and had previously attacked her) sees
her. This leads to a rather brutal (though thankfully not too graphic) rape
scene towards the end of the film (involving the tattooing of Joey's back)
that leads to gunplay. A great movie, but kind of hard to watch because of
the brutality directed towards Joey.
Does this ring a bell? If not, here's a list of post 1987 films that might
fit your description:
1988 - Law or Justice?
1989 - Missing Man
1990 - An Eye for An Eye
Cyprus Tigers
The Big Score
Family Honor
Killer's Romance
Lady from Hong Kong
Point of No Return
1991 Hong Kong Godfather
If you can remember anything else about the movie maybe we could narrow it
down. I'll probably have to find and review the movie though since it's been
quite a few years since I've seen some of these movies.
Wheee....I just love a challenge! I alway hope to find out about a Joey film
I've never heard of. :-)

Or possibly "Miss Hong Kong", AKA "Private Life". Before this movie was
re-released on DVD, people used to exaggerate it and say this was Joey's most
"erotic" performance. Even the review on HKMDb is written this way. But the
movie is fairly tame, and of course, no Joey nudity.
In a recent interview Joey said she might do a photo book some time in the
future, and the interviewer asked her if she'd ever done a nude scene before
and she said "No".
Right after my last post I thought about and pulled out my copy of Miss Hong
Kong to double-check if this could be what Calvin wrote about. I haven't
gotten around to watching it yet but did a quick scan through the disc to
see if there is any gunplay or violence. Doesn't seem to be any so I don't
think this is it. Joey looks great in her swimsuits though. <GRIN>
As for the interview, could you provide a source or link? I'd love to add it
to my website. I've read a bit of her interview in the Asian version of Time
Magazine from late last year and she hinted that she might do a nude
photobook in the future, but it's unclear whether she was at all serious or
not. Would take a lot of the *mystery* away, but guess who'd be first in
line to place his order! *DOUBLE BLUSH*

I think it'd be more helpful if you tell us about
the "erotic" scenes in that movie...what did
Joey do in those scenes?

The scene that turns the movie is when the businessman murders Joey's pimp.
Joey gets accused of the crime, and the rest of the movie deals with whether or
not the business man will speak up to save Joey, or will keep silent to protect
himself. So, it's not a particularly violent movie, but I had no idea what the
original poster may have been referring to, and remembered that this movie had
a somewhat unjustified reputation.
As for the interview, I think I may have it around somewhere, I'll take a
look...
'This Film is Very Close to Who I Am'
'Peony Pavilion' star Joey Wong talks to TIME
BY STEPHEN SHORT
Joey Wong, queen of the 'Chinese Ghost Story' movies of the '80s and '90s, has
leaped back into Hong Kong cinema with her appearance opposite Japanese star
Rie Miyazawa in Yonfan's lush epic 'Peony Pavilion'. TIME entertainment
correspondent Stephen Short talks to Wong about her role, her next projects,
and life after September 11. Edited excerpts: TIME: What were your feelings
when the film was complete?
Wong: Yesterday I saw the whole thing. One part of the film is very close to
who I am; the theme of overcoming sexual, physical passion. Of making decisions
to pursue spiritual love rather than physical love. TIME: You've been in the
Hong Kong film industry a long time. What have been the most dramatic changes?
Wong: There's a little bit more space than before, that one can exist in. If
you think in terms of air being polluted, I would say the air has become less
polluted. This gust of fresh air has come from directors who are creating
better characters. TIME: Does that imply content has got better? I keep being
told it's got worse.
Wong: No. There has always been these people willing to make sacrifices.
Perhaps there's just a greater quantity of it now. TIME: Was it good fun
wearing male costume, somewhat androgynous?
Wong: Yes. I love men. TIME: Do you think the androgynous look could take off
here as a result?
Wong: The real question is about the emotional content of wearing men's
clothes. TIME: You say you love men, does that imply one is not enough for you?
Wong: I'm waiting for one. But while I'm waiting I have to love everyone. I'm
in the preparation stage. You have to completely love everyone in that state,
because you never know which one it might be. TIME: How has the WTC affair
affected your thinking?
Wong: When a strong, wealthy country takes and takes as opposed to sharing,
then this kind of thing is inevitable. TIME: Will the event affect filmmaking
in any way in Asia, do you think?
Wong: If we're not attentive enough, then it will have an impact. TIME: Did you
think Rie Miyazawa was a strange choice for the role?
Wong: For a Japanese actress playing a Chinese woman, she was great. She really
had to overcome a lot of emotional barriers. TIME: Rie Miyazawa did a famous
nude-art book, Santa Fe. Did you?
Wong: No, but I will. You must be a fortune teller, that's one of my future
projects. TIME: Did you ever take your clothes off for a movie?
Wong: No. TIME: Are you serious about the nude book, or are you just humoring
me?
Wong: You have to understand what the intention is. The pictures are very
primal in art like that. Almost like the quality of a young infant. TIME: Can't
you make it spiritual, to match your feelings about love?
Wong: I think if you're going to do a nude book, you just go ahead and do it
full on. TIME: And media reaction to the book wouldn't be to take it seriously,
would it?
Wong: If I make this decision, the media reaction is irrelevant to me. I would
do it, because that's what I want to do. That's all that matters.
