I caught an interesting film on the local Chinese television network in
Toronto a few weeks ago which had a completely over-the-top triad gang
leader named "Ugly Kwan". "Ugly Kwan" has got to be one of the most
memorable characters in HK cinema. The brutality of this character is
almost indescribable. In one scene, he tortures and ultimately kills a
rival triad leader while his school aged children look on. After the
father is killed, he has the children buried alive, with a first person
camera shot of the dirt being shovelled on top of them.

On the weekend, this "Ugly Kwan" character makes another apperance in a
film, only this time playing a parody of himself. The film is a breezy
comedy about a wooden statute of a god coming to life. The god retains
his supernatural powers, which give rise to some quite hilarious scenes.

I don't read Chinese so I didn't catch the names of the films which "Ugly
Kwan" appeared in or the name of the actor which played the character.

Any info is apreciated. Thanks in advance.

The original Ugly Kwan film is YOUNG AND DANGEROUS.

The parody film is TWINKLE, TWINKLE LUCY STAR.

The name of the actor is Francis Ng Chun-yu

I might be wrong but are you from the Vancouver area? Was it the Saturday
night movie on Fairchild? If so, are you asking about the guy with the
hoarse voice who captured the girl? I don't know his name but he was Ko
Ngo in God Of Gamblers 3: The Early Stage. Hope that helps in finding
someone to answer your question.

The first film you described is Young and Dangerous (Goo Wat Jai)
and the second is Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star. Both Ugly Kwans are played
by Francis Ng Chun Yu, who won the HKFCS award for Best Actor for Once Upon
A Time in Triad Society, pretty much playing Ugly Kwan again.
